A Celebration of Speed and Family at the 2026 Melbourne Motor Show
The 2026 Melbourne Motor Show is set to be a thrilling event for car enthusiasts and fans of the iconic Fast & Furious franchise. This year’s show will feature a special celebration of the 25th anniversary of the film series, marking a significant milestone in its journey from a cult classic to a global phenomenon.
A Global Phenomenon
The partnership between Universal Studios and the Melbourne Motor Show aims to highlight the cultural impact of the Fast & Furious films, which have grown into a multi-billion-dollar cinematic empire. The event will showcase various homages to the cars that have defined the franchise over the years, offering visitors a chance to experience the magic of the movies up close.
Exclusive merchandise and interactive fan activities will also be available, allowing attendees to immerse themselves in the world of Fast & Furious. Mel Green, Senior Marketing Manager at Universal Products & Experiences, emphasized the importance of the franchise beyond just action: “Fast & Furious has always been about more than action—it’s about family, identity and a shared global culture.”
This celebration provides an opportunity to connect with the passionate Australian fanbase that has grown alongside the franchise over the past 25 years. It’s a chance to reflect on the journey of the films and their enduring appeal.
The Evolution of the Franchise
The first Fast & Furious movie, released in 2001, starred Vin Diesel as Dominic Toretto, Paul Walker as Brian O’Connor, Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Ortiz, and Jordana Brewster as Mia Toretto. These characters have continued to play pivotal roles in subsequent sequels.
The second film, 2 Fast 2 Furious, introduced Roman Pearce and Tej Parker, played by Tyrese Gibson and Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges, who became mainstays in the franchise. The third instalment, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, took the story to Japan and introduced Han Lue, played by Sung Kang.

In 2009, Fast & Furious introduced Gal Gadot’s Gisele Yashar, while 2011’s Fast Five marked the debut of Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs. The franchise continued to expand with Fast & Furious 6 (2013), Furious 7 (2015), and The Fate of the Furious (2017). F9 (2021) and Fast X (2023) further solidified the series’ success, with Hobbs & Shaw (2019) serving as a spin-off.
The latest installment, Fast Forever, is scheduled for a 2028 release and is currently in production. Over 25 years and 11 films, the franchise has grossed US$7.5 billion (AU$10.8 billion) globally, spawning video games, TV shows, theme park rides, and toys.
