Enzo Fernandez’s Agent Condemns Chelsea’s Decision
Enzo Fernandez’s agent has strongly criticized the decision by Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior to leave the midfielder out of the team, calling it “completely unfair.” The 25-year-old Argentine player will not feature in either of Chelsea’s next two matches after being sanctioned for comments made during the international break that raised questions about his future at Stamford Bridge.
Fernandez has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, and he recently expressed his desire to live in the Spanish capital during a podcast. Rosenior confirmed that Fernandez would be omitted from the team for Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Port Vale and the Premier League clash with Manchester City next weekend.
“I spoke with Enzo about an hour ago,” Rosenior said. “As a football club, with me as part of the decision, he won’t be available for tomorrow’s game or Manchester City next Sunday. It’s disappointing for Enzo to speak that way. I have got no bad words to say about him, but a line was crossed in terms of our culture and what we want to build.”
However, the controversy is far from over, as Fernandez’s agent, Javier Pastore, has publicly opposed the sanction. He described the punishment as “completely unfair” and argued that banning the player for two crucial matches is overly harsh, especially given the importance of the Champions League qualification for Chelsea.
“Banning the player for two matches, which moreover are also absolutely crucial for Chelsea because qualification for the Champions League is at stake and he is one of the team’s most important players,” Pastore told The Athletic. “Alongside others, of course, but he has proven himself this year to be a leader and a key player, the backbone of this Chelsea side. I think it’s far too harsh given Chelsea’s current situation, and there’s no real reason or justification for why he has been banned.”
Pastore added that Fernandez did not fully understand the decision. “Enzo didn’t understand the situation. When the coach told him, he accepted it because he’s a highly professional guy who’s always fully committed wherever he is and respects decisions, but we don’t understand the punishment because he doesn’t mention any club or say he wants to leave Chelsea, far from it. He only mentions Madrid, the city.”

Marc Cucurella’s Comments and Manager’s Response
Rosenior also addressed the issue of Marc Cucurella, who faced no disciplinary action after making controversial remarks about the dismissal of former manager Enzo Maresca in January. Cucurella suggested that the decision had destabilized the team and questioned the club’s recruitment policy, stating that the focus on young players and future development left some players feeling discouraged.
“I had a fantastic conversation with Marc yesterday, half-an-hour in my office,” Rosenior said. “My disappointment in Marc’s interview was where it went to. I think he should’ve spoken to us first about how he was feeling.”
The manager emphasized the importance of open communication within the team. “I want players to know they can speak openly and honestly for the benefit of the football club. As a football club, we know we need to improve.”
A New Era for Chelsea
Chelsea is currently navigating a period of transition, with new management and a focus on long-term development. While some players may feel uncertain about the direction of the club, Rosenior remains committed to fostering a culture of transparency and accountability.
As the season progresses, the challenges faced by the squad will continue to test their resilience and adaptability. With key matches on the horizon, the pressure is on both the players and the coaching staff to deliver results and maintain the high standards expected of a club of Chelsea’s stature.
