Enzo Fernandez’s Agent Condemns Chelsea’s Decision to Omit the Midfielder
Enzo Fernandez’s agent has strongly criticized Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior for deciding to leave the midfielder out of the team. According to the agent, the decision is “completely unfair” and not justified by the circumstances surrounding the player.
Fernandez will not be available for either of Chelsea’s next two matches after being sanctioned for comments he made during the international break. These remarks raised questions about his future at Stamford Bridge, leading to the disciplinary action taken by the club.
The 25-year-old player has been linked with a potential move to Real Madrid, and he recently expressed his desire to live in the Spanish capital during a podcast interview. This has fueled further speculation about his future with the club.
Rosenior confirmed that Fernandez would be excluded from the team for Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Port Vale and the upcoming Premier League match against Manchester City. He explained:
“I spoke with Enzo about an hour ago. As a football club, with me as part of the decision, he won’t be available for tomorrow’s game or Manchester City next Sunday. It’s disappointing for Enzo to speak that way. I have got no bad words to say about him, but a line was crossed in terms of our culture and what we want to build.”
However, the situation is far from resolved, as Fernandez’s agent, Javier Pastore, has publicly criticized the punishment. He described the sanction as “completely unfair,” arguing that it is harsh given the importance of the upcoming matches for Chelsea’s Champions League qualification.
“Banning the player for two matches, which moreover are also absolutely crucial for Chelsea because qualification for the Champions League is at stake and he is one of the team’s most important players,” Pastore said. “Alongside others, of course, but he has proven himself this year to be a leader and a key player, the backbone of this Chelsea side. I think it’s far too harsh given Chelsea’s current situation, and there’s no real reason or justification for why he has been banned.”
Pastore added that Fernandez did not fully understand the situation when he was informed of the decision. “Enzo didn’t understand the situation. When the coach told him, he accepted it because he’s a highly professional guy who’s always fully committed wherever he is and respects decisions, but we don’t understand the punishment because he doesn’t mention any club or say he wants to leave Chelsea, far from it. He only mentions Madrid, the city.”

Marc Cucurella’s Comments Lead to Discussion
In a separate development, Rosenior revealed that no disciplinary action would be taken against Marc Cucurella following his recent interview with The Athletic. During the interview, Cucurella expressed concerns about the dismissal of former manager Enzo Maresca in January, suggesting that it had destabilized the team.
The Spain defender also appeared to question the club’s recruitment strategy, stating: “I understand this is part of the club’s policy and that they want to take this direction – signing young players and looking to the future. But, for all of us who want to win big things, moments like this (the 8-2 aggregate defeat to PSG) make you feel discouraged.”
Rosenior addressed the issue, saying: “I had a fantastic conversation with Marc yesterday, half-an-hour in my office. My disappointment in Marc’s interview was where it went to. I think he should’ve spoken to us first about how he was feeling. I want players to know they can speak openly and honestly for the benefit of the football club. As a football club, we know we need to improve.”
Understanding the Club’s Culture
Rosenior emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong club culture and ensuring that players align with the values of the team. He acknowledged that while open communication is encouraged, there are boundaries that must be respected.
The manager reiterated that the decision to exclude Fernandez was made with the best interests of the club in mind, despite the player’s recent statements. He stressed that the club is focused on building a cohesive environment and moving forward with a unified vision.
This incident highlights the delicate balance between player autonomy and club expectations, especially in high-pressure environments like professional football. As the season progresses, the impact of these decisions on both the team’s performance and internal dynamics will become increasingly evident.
