Freddy Brazier & Jeff: A Father’s Bond Rekindled

Jeff Brazier’s relationship with his son Freddy appears to be on the mend after a period of significant public friction. The TV presenter, 46, had previously initiated legal proceedings last year, aiming to restrict his younger son’s contact with his maternal grandmother, Jackiey Budden. Brazier reportedly cited concerns over an “incredibly detrimental” relationship as the basis for his legal action.

However, following the withdrawal of the court case, Brazier shifted his focus to supporting Freddy. This came at a time when news broke that Freddy’s ex-girlfriend, Holly, was expecting a child. This week, it was announced that Freddy and Holly, who have since rekindled their relationship, have welcomed their first baby, a daughter named Isla Jade Brazier.

As Freddy steps into this new chapter of fatherhood, we take a closer look at his life, from his poignant television appearances with his father to his complex relationship with his grandmother.

Becoming a Dad

Reports of Freddy’s ex-girlfriend’s pregnancy were met with significant support from his father. Sources close to the family indicated that Jeff had been “extremely supportive” of his son during this unexpected development.

A friend shared with The Mail on Sunday that the news of the impending arrival had been a surprise but had also served as a catalyst in bringing Freddy and his father closer. “It has blindsided him and has been one of the things that has really brought him and his dad back together, but it’s so devastating that Jade isn’t here to see it,” the friend remarked.

The source further elaborated, stating, “Jeff was one of the first people he decided to confide in to ask for advice, and he stepped up straight away and wanted to help in any way he could.”

It’s understood that Freddy and Holly’s initial relationship was brief and ended acrimoniously in early 2025 following disagreements. However, the pair later reconciled, leading to the current happy news of their daughter’s arrival.

Freddy’s Early Years and the Shadow of Loss

The late Jade Goody, a beloved television personality, had two sons with This Morning presenter Jeff Brazier. Bobby was born in June 2003, followed by Freddy in September 2004.

Tragically, in 2008, Jade was diagnosed with cervical cancer while participating in the Indian reality television show Bigg Boss. The cancer was found to be advanced and life-threatening, with doctors giving her a 65% chance of survival.

Jade Goody passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 22, 2009, at the age of 27. Her passing prompted a national outpouring of grief, with then-Prime Minister Gordon Brown paying tribute to her as “a courageous woman both in life and death.” He added that “the whole country has admired her determination to provide a bright future for her children.”

Freddy has spoken openly about the profound impact of losing his mother at such a young age. During an emotional appearance on Celebrity Race Across The World alongside his father, Jeff, he shared his struggles with processing the grief. He revealed, “I lost my mum when I was four and that was on Mother’s Day, which is really hard. I don’t really like showing my emotions. I don’t even speak to my dad much about my mum either. I just avoid it. I prefer to bottle it up.”

He expressed a fear of being a burden and admitted that many of his memories of his mother come from external sources. “A lot of my memories that I have of my mum have come from watching a documentary, YouTube clips, newspapers, they are not my memories,” he confessed.

Fighting back tears, Freddy continued, “I don’t really remember being held by my mum. If I had more memories of her, it would have made it a whole lot harder for me. But I think I would rather that than not really remember the things that I had done with my mum. It’s just life really and I’ve kind of accepted that.”

Navigating ADHD

On the same television program, Freddy also bravely discussed his diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), admitting to feelings of inadequacy. Jeff expressed immense pride in his son’s perseverance and effort, even when Freddy felt he wasn’t succeeding.

Speaking to the camera, Jeff highlighted Freddy’s numerous strengths, noting that his son often struggled to recognise them himself. “A lot of the time I think he sees himself as being inadequate and inferior and not enough,” he shared.

Freddy recounted his difficulties in the classroom, describing school as a challenging environment. “I was that kid in class who struggled, and my concentration wasn’t the best and I was a bit of a joker,” he said.

He revealed that he was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 10. “I didn’t mean to misbehave, but I didn’t know how to cope with everything that was going on. I don’t think I was bad, but I wasn’t good,” Freddy explained.

Jeff remains optimistic about his son’s future, believing he will achieve great things. “We need the pioneers and the people who give a completely different opinion, and that’s what Fred’s role is going to be. I see it, I’ve always seen it, and I look forward to him realising it one day, where it will all click and fall into place,” he stated.

The Complex Bond with Jackiey Budden

Freddy reportedly shares a close bond with his grandmother, former Big Brother star Jackiey Budden, 67, and has been known to stay with her regularly. Jackiey was married to Jade’s father, Andrew, who struggled with heroin addiction, leading to their separation when Jade was just two years old.

Sources suggest that Jackiey provides a source of comfort for Freddy, particularly during times of conflict with his father. “Freddy will often turn up on the doorstep, sometimes very unhappy and wanting to see his nan,” a source told The Mail. “While Jackiey has her issues – and will be the first to admit she isn’t the most perfect archetypal grandmother – he can share his feelings with her which is something he can’t do at Jeff’s.”

Tensions between Jeff and Jackiey were evident in the past. Jackiey reportedly branded Jeff a derogatory term following Bobby’s National Television Awards speech, where he accepted an award for rising star for his role in EastEnders.

However, reports indicate that Jeff later dropped legal action after reaching an understanding with Jackiey. “Effectively they’ve all made peace for the time being and are trying to make things better again, which is doing them the world of good,” a source told The Sun. “It’s actually the perfect outcome for everyone, and exactly what Jade would have wanted. The boys are happier for it, and the constant in-fighting has stopped… for now.”

The source also added that Freddy “remains devoted” to his grandmother and had previously threatened to leave the UK to be with her abroad if Jeff had pursued his legal case.
