Fremantle battles through Adelaide’s frenzy to win thriller as Carlton falls to North Melbourne

Fremantle’s Gutsy Victory Over Adelaide

Forward Jy Amiss played a crucial role in Fremantle’s narrow two-point victory against Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval on Friday night. Amiss kicked four goals, helping the Dockers secure a 11.12 (78) to 11.10 (76) win.

Fremantle (2-1) remained third on the ladder after a tough match that saw them lead by 34 points in the third term but face a late scare from Adelaide. The Crows managed to take a seven-point lead midway through the final quarter, but Freo’s late efforts, including a stunning dribbled goal from Josh Treacy and a key strike from Shai Bolton, helped them clinch the win.

Adelaide’s James Borlase had a chance to seal the victory with a last-minute kick that hit the post, adding to the tension of the game.

Fremantle’s midfielders Caleb Serong (32 disposals, six clearances), Murphy Reid (26 touches), and Angus Brayshaw (25, one goal) were standout performers. In attack, Amiss was supported by Patrick Voss (two goals) and Treacy (two goals). Judd McVee (22 touches) and Neil Erasmus (21) also made significant contributions.

On the other side, Adelaide’s defenders Wayne Milera (27 possessions) and Josh Worrell (23) put in strong performances, while on-baller James Peatling gathered 25 touches, seven clearances, and a goal.

Carlton’s Second-Half Collapse

Carlton’s struggles continued as they suffered another second-half collapse, losing 14.12 (96) to 13.8 (86) against North Melbourne at Docklands Stadium. The loss marked their second defeat in nine attempts in the Good Friday marquee fixture, although it was their first win under coach Alastair Clarkson this season.

Carlton started strongly, kicking five goals to two in the third term and leading by 21 points at the 14-minute mark of the final quarter. However, they failed to maintain composure, allowing North Melbourne to take control.

The situation worsened when vice-captain Jacob Weitering was forced off with concussion after an accidental knee to his head early in the final term. He will be sidelined for at least one match.

North Melbourne took the lead when Harry Sheezel scored a goal at the 29-minute mark of the last quarter. They finally secured the win when Jy Simpkin ran into an open goal with just 30 seconds left on the clock.

Key players for North included Sheezel (24 disposals), Luke Davies-Uniacke (22), Finn O’Sullivan (21), George Wardlaw (16), and Luke Parker (20). Zane Duursma and Cooper Trembath each kicked three goals.

For Carlton, George Hewett (22 disposals), Patrick Cripps (21), Elijah Hollands (18), and ruckman Marc Pittonet fought hard, while Brodie Kemp kicked three goals.
