Hampshire man develops app for coffee lovers

A New App is Helping Independent Coffee Shops Shine

A new app called Brewfinder is changing the way people discover independent coffee shops in Hampshire and Dorset. Created by Matt Brown, a coffee consultant based in Hampshire, the app focuses on helping users find quality-focused cafes that prioritise craft, customer experience, and authenticity.

Now available on the Apple App Store and online, Brewfinder is designed to highlight venues that go above and beyond to deliver an exceptional coffee experience. The app is not just a simple directory — it’s a carefully curated platform that ensures only the best independent cafes are featured.

A Personal Project with a Big Vision

Matt Brown, who is 37 years old, started Brewfinder as a personal project to challenge himself and learn how to build an app. He said: “It began as a way to keep my mind busy and develop new skills. But it quickly turned into something more.”

He explained that he didn’t want to create a generic list of coffee shops. Instead, he wanted to celebrate places that truly care about their craft and customer experience. “Brewfinder is quietly curated and built with intention,” he added.

Unlike other platforms that list every café, Brewfinder only features carefully selected spots. It doesn’t accept paid listings or include every venue, ensuring that each entry meets its high standards of quality and authenticity.

How the App Works

Users can explore nearby coffee shops using map and list formats, discover new destinations, and support independent businesses through reviews, recommendations, and visits. The app aims to make it easier for people to find great places to enjoy coffee while also helping local cafes gain more visibility.

Matt Brown has spent over a decade in the coffee industry, including running his own cafe for 11 years. He now works in consulting, roasting, and concept development, and leads The Bearista, which supports cafes and hospitality businesses with training, operations, and brand direction.

A Platform for Quality Over Quantity

Brewfinder was born from a personal need to find quality coffee shops that are often overlooked in online directories. Matt said: “I’ve seen how many great independent coffee shops get lost in endless lists that don’t reflect real quality.”

He wants the app to cut through the noise and highlight the places that truly care about what they do. “It’s not about being the biggest — it’s about being thoughtful, curated, and genuinely helpful,” he said.

If the app encourages even a few more people to support independent businesses, then it’s doing its job. “This is just the beginning,” Matt added. “I’m hoping to grow Brewfinder beyond Hampshire and Dorset while keeping the same ethos at its core.”

Expanding the Reach

Brewfinder is intended to help users discover cafes worth visiting without getting lost in the sea of large chains. The app is already planning to expand to new regions and eventually across the UK.

Residents are encouraged to download the app, explore their local coffee scene, and support independent businesses. More information can be found at www.brewfinderapp.co.uk.
