Ex-NRL Star Jarrod Wallace Prepares for High-Profile Boxing Match
Ex-NRL star Jarrod Wallace is set to make a strong statement ahead of his upcoming boxing match against Nelson Asofa-Solomona. The two former rugby league players will face off on Easter Sunday in Wollongong, as part of the undercard of Tim Tszyu’s WBO world title bout against undefeated Middleweight Denis Nurja.
Wallace, who is considered the underdog in his professional debut, has shown confidence in his ability to outmatch Asofa-Solomona. His bold remarks about the former Storm heavyweight have already sparked interest in the fight.

During an interview, Wallace acknowledged Asofa-Solomona’s size and power but suggested there are weaknesses that could be exploited. “He is big, he’s powerful, I’ve got respect for him, but there are plenty of flaws,” Wallace said. He added, “Craig Bellamy has seen it and that’s why they sacked him.”
When asked for a response, Asofa-Solomona simply smiled and gave “no comment.” This exchange has only added to the anticipation surrounding the match.
The rivalry between Wallace and Asofa-Solomona is not new. The two have previously faced off in an exhibition bout in late 2023. During that event, Wallace’s corner threw in the towel after Asofa-Solomona knocked him down with a powerful uppercut and a glancing right hand.
After leaving the Melbourne Storm at the end of last season, Asofa-Solomona decided to pursue boxing full-time. He made a strong start to his new career by defeating ex-Dragons forward Jeremy Latimore in a knockout victory.

Asofa-Solomona remains confident in his abilities and believes the fight will be a decisive one. “It’s going to be a demolition job,” he said. “I really feel once he feels that 10 ounce glove he is going to get the shock of his life. I guarantee it’s going to be a highlight reel finish.”
Despite his previous loss to Asofa-Solomona, Wallace is determined to take the fight to his opponent. He described himself as the fan favourite and promised to bring his best performance. “I think everyone would love to see me go in and knock him out,” Wallace said. “I’m going to get him in deep waters, get him in deep rounds and throw. We’re just going to throw bombs at each other. That’s what everyone wants to see and that’s what heavyweights do.”
In addition to the main event, several other fights are set to take place on the card. Australian super bantamweight Sam Goodman will compete in an IBF World Title eliminator against Rodrigo Ruiz. Meanwhile, Tokyo Olympian Paulo Aokuso will aim for his tenth win as a professional against Kittipong Jian Hao Ho.
This exciting lineup promises to deliver thrilling action and showcase the talent of both established and emerging boxers. Fans can expect an intense and competitive night of boxing as these athletes step into the ring to prove their skills.
