Jet2 Updates Travelers on Spring Holiday Flight Concerns

Jet2 has made a statement to address concerns among passengers who may be affected by disruptions to their travel plans during the spring season. With the Easter holidays now here, many families have planned trips to Europe in the coming weeks. However, some travelers are worried about potential flight cancellations.

Greece has experienced significant travel issues this week due to a powerful storm that hit parts of the country. The island of Crete was also affected by a Saharan dust storm, leading to additional weather-related complications. Furthermore, there are concerns about possible jet fuel shortages caused by the ongoing conflict in Iran.

A passenger named Liz Hughes reached out to Jet2 via X (formerly Twitter) ahead of her planned trip to Corfu later this month. She asked whether she should be worried about flight cancellations. In response, a Jet2 employee named Lily, from the @Jet2tweets account, assured her that all flights are currently scheduled to proceed as normal.

Lily wrote: “Hi Liz, all flights are planned to go ahead as normal. If anything were to change regarding your booking, we would be sure to reach out to you directly to make you aware, and discuss the options available to you. Thanks, Lily.”

This announcement comes at a time when Ryanair’s chief executive, Michael O’Leary, has warned of potential severe disruptions for passengers in early May if the Middle East conflict continues. Speaking on Sky News, he stated: “Fuel suppliers are constantly looking at the market. We don’t expect any disruption until early May, but if the war continues, we do run the risk of supply disruptions in Europe in May and June, and we hope the war will finish sooner than that and the risk to supply will be eliminated.”

Since February, oil prices have risen sharply due to Iran’s blockade of tankers passing through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Despite this, the Business Secretary, Peter Kyle, has confirmed that there are no current supply chain problems for jet fuel. He told Times Radio: “I was looking immediately after the conflict started, where we interact in order to get resilience into our society, into our economy, we’ve been working with all these key sectors, identifying sectors where there may well be challenges down the track. We have no (fuel) supply chain issues at this moment at all.”

According to an industry body, UK airlines are not currently experiencing any disruption to their jet fuel supply. An Airlines UK spokesperson said: “UK airlines are currently not seeing disruption to jet fuel supply and continue to engage with fuel suppliers and Government to monitor the situation.”

In light of the current events, it is essential for travelers to stay informed and keep an eye on updates from their airline. While there are no immediate concerns regarding fuel supply or flight operations, the situation remains fluid, and any changes could impact travel plans. Passengers are advised to check with their airline regularly for the latest information and to consider alternative arrangements if necessary.

For those planning trips to Europe, especially in the coming weeks, it is wise to remain flexible and prepared for any potential disruptions. Airlines such as Jet2 and Ryanair are monitoring the situation closely and will communicate any changes directly to affected passengers. As the conflict in the Middle East continues, the aviation sector remains vigilant, ensuring that travelers are kept informed and supported throughout their journey.
