Comedian Jim Jefferies Recounts Tense Radio Moment Preceding Kyle and Jackie O’s Split
Australian comedian Jim Jefferies has offered a firsthand account of the escalating tensions between radio titans Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, revealing an awkward on-air exchange that foreshadowed their eventual, dramatic split. Jefferies was a guest on The Kyle and Jackie O Show mere days before the publicised fallout that brought their long-running radio partnership to an abrupt end. The comedian witnessed the co-hosts’ friction over Henderson’s penchant for astrology, a topic that ultimately proved to be a significant point of contention.
This experience, Jefferies suggests, sheds light on the fact that Sandilands’ frustrations with Henderson’s “esoteric interests” predated the now-infamous on-air argument. That particular incident, which involved Henderson’s insistence on reading the birth chart of Prince Andrew, is widely believed to have been the final straw in their 25-year professional relationship.
Jefferies’ appearance on the show occurred on February 14th, coinciding with his birthday. It was this personal milestone that inadvertently triggered a disagreement between Sandilands and Henderson.
“Jackie asked to do my horoscope and it was my birthday,” Jefferies recounted during a recent interview on 4BC Afternoons with Carla Bignasca. “She started looking into all the star signs and then Kyle went, ‘Oh, well, you doing this again, are you?'”

Attempting to smooth over the burgeoning awkwardness, Jefferies joined in with Sandilands’ sarcastic tone, believing the exchange was light-hearted banter. “I got into it as well,” he explained. “I went, ‘Oh, bloody women and stars, signs and all this type of stuff, right?’ I thought we were all having a bit of fun.” However, the comedian admitted that the subsequent events suggested a deeper undercurrent of conflict. “And then the next day it all blew up. So, there must have been more to it.”
The timing of Jefferies’ observation is particularly pertinent, as his name has surfaced among a list of potential replacements for the coveted breakfast radio slot vacated by the axing of The Kyle and Jackie O Show. When questioned about these rumours, the popular funnyman stated, “no one has called,” but candidly confessed, “yes, I would do it.”
The Astrology Spark and the Radio Fallout
The heated exchange that ultimately led to the downfall of the iconic radio duo was reportedly ignited by a comment Henderson made regarding Prince Andrew. Following news of his arrest, Henderson began reading his astrological chart live on air. This action prompted an irate Sandilands to publicly accuse her of an “obsession” with astrology, labelling it a trait that made her “almost unworkable.”
Earlier this month, ARN, the parent company of KIIS FM, confirmed that Henderson, 51, had informed them of her inability to “continue to work with Mr Kyle Sandilands.” This declaration followed the on-air confrontation on February 20th, which resulted in ARN terminating her contract.
Legal Battles and Contract Terminations
The repercussions of the on-air dispute have been far-reaching, extending into significant legal ramifications. Kyle Sandilands, 54, is reportedly engaged in an $88 million legal battle with ARN. The media network terminated his contract last Wednesday, following his earlier suspension for “serious misconduct” in the wake of the public argument with his long-time co-host.

The former ratings king has lodged a substantial, multi-million-dollar lawsuit against the broadcasting giant in the Federal Court. Sources close to the situation suggest that Sandilands was not privy to the details of the discussions between Henderson and ARN in the days leading up to her decisive statement. An insider claims that Sandilands intends to argue in his defence that he received no prior warnings from ARN management regarding his conduct or the manner in which he addressed his co-host.
The remarkable partnership between Jackie Henderson and Kyle Sandilands first began in 2000, with their debut on 2DayFM’s Hot 30 Countdown. Just five years later, they transitioned to the station’s breakfast show, where they achieved remarkable success and dominated the ratings for many years. Their enduring on-air chemistry and candid discussions made them a staple of Australian radio, a legacy now overshadowed by their acrimonious separation.
