Kia’s Strong Start to 2026 with Record Sales
Kia has reported a significant increase in sales during the first quarter of 2026, with a total of 207,015 vehicles sold. This marks a 4.1% year-over-year growth compared to the 198,850 units sold in the same period in 2025. The automaker continues to show strong performance across its lineup, although some models have experienced declines.
Best-Selling Models
The Sportage remains Kia’s top-selling model, with sales rising by 8.2% to 44,704 units. This is followed closely by the K4, which saw a slight increase in sales to 37,220 units, compared to the Telluride SUV, which sold 35,928 units. Both the K4 and Telluride recorded year-over-year gains, indicating continued demand for these models.
Electric Vehicles Face Challenges
Despite the overall positive trend, Kia’s electric vehicles, the EV6 and EV9, faced significant declines in sales. The EV6 saw a drop of 46.5%, selling 2,023 units compared to 3,783 in the previous year. Similarly, the EV9 sold 2,740 units, down 27.1% from 3,756 units in 2025. These declines are attributed to the discontinuation of US government subsidies for electric vehicles.
Below is a breakdown of key models and their sales figures:

|---|---|---|---|
| Kia EV9 | 2,740 | 3,756 | -27.1% |

Performance of Other Models
The Sorento also saw a decline in sales, with 21,510 units sold, a decrease of 14.4% compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, the Soul experienced a sharp drop in sales, with a 70.8% decrease, leading to the end of production for the 2025 model year.
However, hybrid models contributed positively to Kia’s sales growth, with hybrid sales increasing by 73% according to the automaker. This suggests that consumers are still showing interest in more fuel-efficient options.
March Sales Decline
Despite the strong start to the year, Kia’s sales in March showed a slight decline, with approximately 2,000 fewer cars sold compared to March 2026. This could signal a potential slowdown in sales for Kia and the broader automotive industry.
Industry Outlook
Kia’s performance in the first quarter of 2026 highlights its ability to adapt to market changes while maintaining a strong presence in the automotive sector. With continued investment in hybrid and electric technologies, the automaker is well-positioned to meet future challenges and opportunities.
