James explained that while cupping a child’s face is more common, this touch suggested a desire to show affection from a man who may not naturally express it. She added that Charles’s slight awkwardness about public displays of affection made the gesture even more meaningful, possibly serving as a reward ritual as much as a sign of affection.
This isn’t the first time Charles and Louis have shared a public moment of connection. Over the years, the pair has often opted for a more casual and affectionate approach at royal events. One recent example was at the 2025 Trooping the Colour, where the king was seen laughing and pointing at Louis’s iconic balcony antics, as the youngster cheekily mimicked his grandfather.
Earlier, in 2022, Louis was pictured sitting on the then-Prince Charles’ lap during the late Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. These moments highlight the close bond between the two.
The royal family has experienced a lot of challenges recently, including several scandals involving Prince Andrew. From the king stripping his younger brother of his titles to Andrew’s arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office, the family has faced numerous difficulties. It was recently reported that some of Andrew’s belongings were burned outside the 30-room Windsor Royal Lodge estate.
