Klopp Courted by Premier League Giants Post-Liverpool Stint, Agent Claims
It appears that Jürgen Klopp’s hiatus from club management following his departure from Liverpool in 2024 was not a quiet one, at least according to his long-time representative. Marc Kosicke has revealed that two of the Premier League’s traditional powerhouses, Manchester United and Chelsea, both made approaches to secure Klopp’s services as their next manager.
Klopp, who left Anfield after a highly successful tenure, opted for a break from the demanding world of top-flight football. He later took on a significant role as head of soccer for the Red Bull group, a position that seemingly offered a different perspective on the sport without the day-to-day pressure of managing a club.
However, Kosicke has put forward the assertion that Klopp was not only in demand from English clubs but also had potential national team roles on the table. In an interview with the German website Transfermarkt, Klopp’s agent stated, “Before joining Red Bull, Jurgen could have coached the USA or England.” He further elaborated on the potential for a return to his homeland, suggesting, “Probably also Germany, if Julian Nagelsmann hadn’t already been there.”
The most striking claims, however, revolve around the Premier League giants. Kosicke asserted, “Even Chelsea and Manchester United inquired, although Jurgen had clearly stated that he would not coach any other club in England. These enquiries keep coming.” This suggests a persistent interest from these clubs, even in the face of Klopp’s stated preference to avoid managing another English team after his Liverpool chapter.

Kosicke emphasised Klopp’s contentment with his past achievements. “He’s extremely happy with what he’s achieved,” he added. “And it’s still wonderful to go down in history as one of the few coaches who only managed three clubs and were never fired.” This sentiment underscores Klopp’s unique career trajectory, marked by longevity and success at each of his managerial posts.
Club Denials Amidst Agent’s Revelations
Following these claims, both Chelsea and Manchester United were approached for comment. In a swift response, representatives from both clubs officially denied the agent’s assertions. This creates a clear divergence between the narrative presented by Klopp’s camp and the official stance of the clubs in question.
Klopp’s Post-Liverpool Engagements
Since stepping down from his managerial duties at Liverpool, Klopp has maintained a relatively low profile, deliberately avoiding any actions that might distract from his successor, Arne Slot. His return to Anfield was a brief but poignant one, appearing for a single match after Liverpool had secured the Premier League title at the close of the previous season.
Looking ahead, Klopp is slated to manage a Liverpool Legends team in a charity match. This event will see him face his former club, Borussia Dortmund, with the legendary Sir Kenny Dalglish also set to be in the dugout for the occasion. This charity fixture offers a glimpse back at his esteemed career and a chance to reconnect with the footballing community in a less high-stakes environment.
The revelation of potential national team roles and the significant interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, even if denied, paints a picture of a manager whose influence and desirability remained exceptionally high even after concluding one of the most celebrated spells in English football history. While the truth behind the extent of these inquiries may remain a topic of debate, it is clear that Jürgen Klopp’s name continues to resonate powerfully within the global football landscape.
