Lady Gaga Cancels Montreal Show Due to Illness
Lady Gaga has canceled her final show in Montreal, Canada, just hours before she was due to take the stage. The singer, whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, was set to perform to a sold-out crowd. However, at 5pm on the night of the concert, she took to her Instagram stories with an announcement.
“I’m so sorry to share that I’m unable to perform tonight and have to cancel the show,” the 40-year-old wrote. She shared that she had been “fighting a respiratory infection for the past few days” and had done everything she could to recover, but her condition had deteriorated.
“My doctor has strongly advised me not to perform today, and, to be honest, I don’t think I could give you the quality of a performance today that you deserve,” her statement continued. “I know how deeply disappointing this is, and I truly could not feel worse about letting you down. I’m so sorry to everyone who made plans to be there and support me.”
“To everyone who was coming tonight, I’m absolutely heartbroken and so sorry.”
The Rain on Me singer had performed in the city on both Thursday and Friday the week prior, with performances she described as “magical and deeply meaningful.”
Tour Highlights and Challenges
The Grammy Award-winner wrapped up the Australian leg of her tour in December 2025, but it didn’t pass by without mishaps. The singer halted her Sydney concert after one of her dancers slipped and fell off the stage in heavy rain.
Dancer Michael Dameski fell off the front of the stage at Accor Stadium during the song Garden of Eden. Gaga ran to check on him and stopped the concert, telling the backstage crew to “stop.” The music stopped and the lights dimmed, as the crowd filmed what was happening.
The Poker Face singer told the crowd: “just one second,” before peering down at Dameski and asking him, “Are you okay?” She explained to the audience, “we just had an accident on the stage, everything’s okay,” saying, “just, everyone wait a second, please.”
The Abracadabra singer then jumped off the stage herself, asking him if he was OK. She hugged him before restarting the show.
Dancer’s Perspective
Dameski later released a statement on Instagram explaining he was “shocked and embarrassed” by the fall. “I just wanted to quickly update you and say that I am okay,” the post starts. “This has been an extremely overwhelming experience. For someone who has danced professionally for years, something like this has never really happened to me.”
“I felt a lot of emotions after the fall… Losing complete control of my body and underestimating how slippery the stage was due to the weather conditions was a hard thing for me to accept.”
Despite feeling “sad and overwhelmed,” he said he didn’t want to give up because he was dancing for his family, who were in the audience, and his hometown. “My body was sore and bruised, but I had to keep going and finish strong. It was the only way for me to heal mentally and feel better once the show was finished.”
The dancer said he felt “incredibly supported” by his boss (presumably Lady Gaga), the rest of the crew and the crowd. “I am now taking the time to rest, recover, and move forward with gratitude for the lessons, love and the resilience this experience gave me.”
Fan Reactions and Future Plans
Fans and followers expressed their disappointment over the cancellation, with many hoping for a reschedule. Lady Gaga has yet to announce any future dates or updates on her health. However, her fans remain supportive, understanding the importance of her well-being.
As the tour continues, the focus will likely shift to ensuring the safety and health of all performers and crew members. The incident in Sydney serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of live performances and the need for preparedness in adverse conditions.
For those who missed the Montreal show, there may be opportunities to catch Lady Gaga in other cities in the coming months. Fans are encouraged to stay tuned for any official announcements regarding future dates and events.
