Hotel Incident Sparks Backlash: Jude Law’s Ex Claims Daughter Was “Berated” by Singer’s Security
A hotel encounter in Brazil has escalated into a public dispute, with Catherine Harding, the ex-partner of actor Jude Law, alleging that her 11-year-old daughter was confronted and “berated” by a security guard associated with pop singer Chappell Roan. The incident reportedly occurred after the child spotted Roan in the same hotel.
Jorginho, a former Chelsea and Arsenal player married to Harding, took to Instagram to share his wife’s account of the events. He claimed that Harding’s daughter, whom she shares with Law, was approached and threatened by a bodyguard present with Roan.
Roan, however, has publicly denied any involvement, stating via her Instagram Story that the security guard was not her personal guard and that she did not instruct anyone to approach the child. She insisted she didn’t even see the mother and child and that no one bothered her during breakfast at the hotel.
Harding has since responded to Roan’s statements, clarifying her perspective. “I know that Chappell has responded, saying that ‘It wasn’t her security and that she didn’t do it’,” Harding stated. “Well, 100% this wasn’t a security guard of the hotel – that’s what I can say. He looks after artists.”
She continued, expressing uncertainty about the guard’s direct affiliation: “Now, I don’t know if he’s her personal security guard, but he was with her, so that is all I know. Did she send him to do it? Again, I don’t know. I would like to hope not.” Harding emphasised the responsibility that comes with celebrity status, adding, “But at the same time, you have a responsibility when you are a celebrity that the people who work for you and act on your behalf are acting on your behalf.”
The Account of the Confrontation
Harding maintained that Roan was correct in saying she “didn’t notice anything” because, according to Harding, nothing significant occurred on the child’s part. She asserted that her daughter simply walked past Roan’s table and smiled.
“My daughter didn’t have her phone, she didn’t try to take a picture, she didn’t do anything,” Harding explained. “She just looked at [Chappell] and smiled.”
Following this brief interaction, Harding recounted how a security guard, whom she described as “aggressive and intimidating,” approached their table. He allegedly “berated” her, accusing them of harassing the singer and suggesting she was a bad parent.
“He said we should not harass people and all these other things,” Harding recalled. “And I did try to explain to him that she was a child and she was just excited to see an artist she liked.”
She further explained that her daughter, accustomed to the public eye due to her famous father and stepfather, understood the concept of “boundaries” when interacting with public figures. However, the security guard, she claims, was not receptive to her explanation.
Hopes for Resolution and Future Conduct
Harding expressed her hope that Roan was unaware of the incident and did not authorise her security to act in such a manner. She conveyed her admiration for Roan’s talent, stating, “I really think she is a very, very talented artist. We liked her a lot. We came all the way to São Paulo to watch her show.”
She revealed that attending Roan’s concert was a birthday present for her daughter, but the experience was “a little bit ruined” as they missed the previous night’s show due to the incident.
“I hope that maybe if it wasn’t her, that maybe she learns not to allow the people who work for her not to treat people like this,” Harding added, highlighting her desire for better conduct from those associated with public figures.
Chappell Roan’s Statement
Chappell Roan’s representatives were contacted for comment by the Daily Mail. In her own Instagram Story, Roan provided her version of events:

“I didn’t even see. I didn’t even see a woman and a child. No one came up to me, no one bothered me. I was just sitting at breakfast at my hotel. I think these people were staying at the hotel as well. So the fact that a security guard who is…”
“I did not ask the security guard to go up and talk to this mother and child. I did not. They did not come up to me. I did not do anything. It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions when they have no reason to believe it, as there’s no action been taken.”
Roan continued, “I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children, like, that is crazy. I am sorry to the mother and child that someone was assuming something. If you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that.”
A Different Kind of Celebrity Encounter
In a separate note, Catherine Harding expressed her gratitude to Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi for his “kindness.” Harding shared a photo of her daughter beaming alongside Capaldi after his concert at Lollapalooza 2026 in São Paulo on Sunday. Chappell Roan was also headlining the festival. The photo, which also included Harding, was captioned: “Thanks for your kindness.” This gesture from Capaldi offered a positive celebrity interaction for the young fan after the earlier distressing incident.
