Lily Allen Celebrates Album Art Unveiling with New Beau in Tow
Lily Allen, the acclaimed singer-songwriter, recently marked a significant milestone in her career with the unveiling of her iconic “West End Girl” album cover at the prestigious National Portrait Gallery in London. The artwork, which has captivated fans and critics alike, will be on display for a full year, cementing its place in the annals of music and art history. Following the celebratory event, Allen was spotted enjoying a night out with her new boyfriend, artist Jonah Freud, and a group of friends at the chic Reference Point bar.
The singer, reportedly 40 years old, appeared to be in excellent spirits, sharing intimate moments with Freud. The couple was seen puffing on cigarettes and engaging in affectionate displays outside the venue. Allen cut an effortlessly stylish figure, sporting a tweed cropped jacket paired with a black mini skirt, and elevating her petite frame with heeled boots.

This blossoming romance with the 28-year-old artist marks Allen’s first high-profile relationship since the conclusion of her four-year marriage to “Stranger Things” star David Harbour. The highly publicised split, which was reportedly fuelled by allegations of infidelity on Harbour’s part, served as the inspiration for Allen’s critically acclaimed breakup album, “West End Girl.” The album’s raw honesty and emotional depth resonated deeply with audiences, propelling it to the number one spot on the Official Album Downloads Chart.
The striking album cover, a masterpiece by Spanish artist Nieves Gonzalez, depicts Allen in a vibrant blue padded jacket, a delicate lace mini skirt, and distinctive spotted boots. Reflecting on the artwork, Allen expressed her delight in making the painting accessible to the public. “Nieves captured the feel of the album so brilliantly and I knew immediately it would make a very strong album cover,” she stated. Allen further elaborated on the portrait’s profound connection to the album’s themes, remarking, “It seems to me the portrait reflects so many facets of the album – strength, power, vulnerability, determination and confusion, amongst many others – that it acts as a key to the whole listening experience. I love it.”
Artist Nieves Gonzalez shared her overwhelming joy and sense of fortune at having her work showcased at the National Portrait Gallery, considering it an integral part of the “West End Girl” artistic journey. Gonzalez envisioned an image that was both intimate and commanding. “I wanted it to be an intimate and direct image, but also powerful. To show her strength, her wisdom, through the eyes of the contemporary women that we are,” she explained. The artist emphasised the crucial balance between classical aesthetics and contemporary expression in her work. “That balance between the classical and the contemporary was essential to me,” Gonzalez added. She sees the piece as a testament to the synergistic relationship between art and music in the creative process, highlighting its multifaceted nature. “This work reflects how art and music come together in the act of creation, with all its layers and facets,” she stated. Gonzalez further articulated her artistic philosophy, explaining, “Using the language of the great historical portraits is not about looking back, it’s about claiming that authority and putting it at the service of a new narrative.”
The “West End Girl” album itself is widely recognised as a poignant and candid exploration of Allen’s tumultuous breakup with her ex-husband, David Harbour, who is reportedly 50 years old. As the album continues to resonate with fans, Allen is currently embarking on a national tour in support of its release.
Amidst her professional commitments, Allen is reportedly cherishing her new romance with Jonah Freud. Freud comes from a notable background, being the son of entrepreneur Matthew Freud and ex-wife Caroline Hutton, and the nephew of the celebrated late artist Lucian Freud.

The couple has been seen together on numerous occasions, with their relationship appearing to deepen as they jetted off to Italy for a romantic getaway. Reports suggest they stayed in a luxurious suite at the Hotel Locarno, with a nightly rate rumoured to be around £800. Their public displays of affection have not gone unnoticed, with Lily and Jonah also photographed sharing a kiss at Allen’s star-studded Christmas party held at London’s Stringfellow’s in December.
Allen has openly acknowledged her relationship status in a recent interview with Grazia magazine. When asked about the last person to text her, she candidly replied, “My boyfriend.”
The pair’s Italian escapade wasn’t the only recent sighting; just last month, Lily and Jonah were pictured enjoying a relaxed coffee break while in Rome. A source who spotted them in the Italian capital recounted the encounter to The Sun: “We walked past her and it was my daughter-in-law who recognised her and went, ‘Oh my God, it’s Lily Allen.’ We did a double take, and it was definitely her, she was with Jonah Freud. They were just having a coffee and a cigarette together.”
Prior to their Italian adventure, the couple was observed enjoying an intimate dinner date at a west London restaurant the month before. This outing marked Allen’s first public date since a reported brief dalliance with actor James Norton earlier in the year.
