Fans of the gritty crime drama Luther are in for a massive surprise as a character long thought deceased is set to make a dramatic comeback. Recent on-set captures from London’s Canary Wharf, according to reports, show Luther and Alice seemingly together, looking up at an office building before making a swift exit. This visual evidence strongly supports the theory that Alice has survived and is actively involved in the present-day narrative.
Further bolstering this theory is a statement from Luther creator Neil Cross himself. Speaking to Newsweek, Cross expressed his unwavering belief in Alice’s continued existence within the Luther universe. “As far as I’m concerned, there isn’t a world where Ruth Wilson ever went away,” he stated. “Just because she’s not in this particular film doesn’t mean that she’s not there in the broader universe. Alice is a very real person to me and I wouldn’t want to live in a world without her.” He also alluded to the character’s organic creation, describing her as springing “fully formed” from his imagination.
The filming itself has been a spectacle, with Elba recently seen braving an explosion scene outside the iconic St. Paul’s Cathedral. This dramatic event is part of the narrative for the upcoming Netflix film, which serves as a sequel to Luther: The Fallen Sun released in 2023. Elba, 53, who has portrayed DCI John Luther since 2010, is fully committed to bringing the character back to life.

Intense scenes have involved him sprinting away from a burning car amidst simulated rainfall, creating a dramatic atmosphere. The set has been a hive of activity, with crew members using umbrellas and ponchos to shield themselves from the elements, while actors, including Elba’s stunt double, reviewed footage and prepared for their scenes. One co-star was even seen bundled up with a towel around her neck, preparing for a scene where she was dragged away by two men following an explosion.
Despite the challenging weather conditions, Elba appeared to be in good spirits, embracing the role and the energy of the London streets.
