MAFS Star Liam Cooper Recounts Terrifying Ordeal in Thailand
Married At First Sight (MAFS) alumnus Liam Cooper, 34, has shared a harrowing account of a holiday in Thailand that left him fearing for his safety. The reality television veteran detailed a frightening encounter where he and his fiancé, Samuel Levi, were confronted by a man wielding what appeared to be a knife.
The incident occurred earlier this week as Liam and Samuel were strolling down a street. Liam took to his Instagram page to recount the distressing experience, aiming to raise awareness among fellow travellers.
“You always hear horror stories of things happening in Thailand; people going missing, being drugged and worse,” Liam began his post. “You kind of brush them off. You never think it will happen to you. Until it almost does.”
He described how a man began following them, getting uncomfortably close. Liam noted that they attempted to evade the individual by crossing the road multiple times, trying to do so without drawing undue attention. However, the man persisted in following them.

The situation rapidly escalated, forcing Liam and Samuel to seek refuge in the nearest hotel. They had to run to the establishment, where security became involved. The aggressor reportedly followed them right to the hotel entrance.
Liam concluded his post with a strong message urging travellers to remain vigilant. “Please be aware of your surroundings and trust your instincts. The moment something feels off, it probably is,” he advised. “Stay alert. It can happen when you least expect it.”
A Surprise Engagement Amidst Past Challenges
This frightening incident comes after a significant personal milestone for Liam. In August, he proposed to his boyfriend, Samuel, in a heartfelt moment. The proposal took place at the Hepburn Bathhouse & Spa in Hepburn Springs, Victoria.

Despite a public announcement in 2023 that the couple had temporarily separated, Liam got down on one knee and asked Samuel to marry him. He presented Samuel with a simple sterling silver band, sharing the joyous news on Instagram.
“20•08•25—a day I’ll never forget. I asked my best friend, my soulmate, my forever, to marry me @_samuellevi,” Liam wrote on the social media platform. He also expressed his gratitude to the Hepburn Bathhouse & Spa for their assistance in orchestrating the surprise.

The engagement announcement may have come as a surprise to some fans, given the couple’s previous split. Liam and Samuel, who also appeared on MAFS New Zealand, announced their separation in April 2023 after 18 months together.
At the time of their split, Liam explained the decision on Instagram, stating: “As much as it has been for ourselves, and a sad day. But myself and Samuel would like to just let you all know we will be taking a break on our relationship. And not moving forward as a ‘couple’ for now.” He emphasised their desire for transparency, given that their relationship began in the public eye.
Despite the temporary separation, the pair maintained their friendship and continued to reside together. Last year, Samuel confirmed that their romance had been rekindled, indicating they had indeed spent his birthday weekend together in April.
Liam first gained public recognition on MAFS in 2021, where he was initially paired with Georgia Fairweather. His bisexuality presented challenges within their on-screen relationship, with Georgia expressing concerns about his ability to commit fully to a woman.
