LIV Golf Continues Despite Rumors of Collapse
Despite recent speculation that LIV Golf could be dissolved, the Saudi-backed golf tour is continuing as planned. Reports have circulated about potential financial difficulties and internal turmoil, but according to insiders, the tour remains operational.
The controversy began when it was reported that LIV Golf might face an emergency meeting in New York, causing uncertainty among players and staff. Multiple agents reportedly had no clear information about the future of the four-year venture, which has received significant investment from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) since 2022.
However, a high-ranking source within LIV Golf has confirmed that the tour is still progressing with its original plans. Michael McEwan, a well-known golf insider, stated that the rumors of LIV’s demise are “greatly exaggerated.”
Financial reports indicate that the tour is performing well. According to internal documents, LIV Golf is tracking $100 million ahead through the first five events of this season. Sponsorship and partnerships have increased by 40% year on year, while ticket sales have jumped by 129%. Retail and merchandising revenue has also risen by 26%.

ESPN’s Jeff Darlington shared insights from an email sent by LIV CEO Scott O’Neil to employees. The email reassured staff that the organization is moving forward without interruption. “Our season continues exactly as planned, uninterrupted and at full throttle,” the email said. “While the media landscape is often filled with speculation, our reality is defined by the work we do on the grass.”
O’Neil emphasized the resilience of the organization, stating that LIV Golf is “bigger, louder, and more influential than ever before.” He acknowledged the challenges faced by the tour since its inception but highlighted the team’s commitment to delivering a compelling show in sports.
Despite ongoing concerns about its long-term future, LIV Golf is proceeding with its scheduled events. The upcoming tournament in Mexico City is set to take place as planned, with the official X account sharing a preview graphic and a message: “Slow news day? We are ON. #LongLIVGolf.”
The event is scheduled to begin at 1:15 pm local time on Thursday.

LIV Golf launched in 2021, creating a significant impact on the golf world by positioning itself as a rival to the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. The breakaway league attracted some of the sport’s most prominent figures, including Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson. Later, European players like Jon Rahm and Tyrell Hatton also joined the tour.
This move led to a major divide in the golf community. Players such as Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter, and Lee Westwood effectively ended their participation in the Ryder Cup after joining LIV Golf. In response, the PGA and DP World Tour imposed sanctions on those who defected.
However, some players have since returned to traditional tours. Brooks Koepka left LIV earlier this year to return to the PGA Tour, while Patrick Reed also departed and is now competing on the DP World Tour in hopes of making a return to the PGA Tour.
Rumors about LIV Golf’s future intensified this week, with reports suggesting that the PIF might reduce its support. The Financial Times and the Telegraph both mentioned that executives were called to an emergency meeting in New York. A LIV source later told the Daily Mail that executives and senior leadership are currently in Mexico ahead of this week’s tournament, although the exact timing of their arrival remains unclear.
