Everton and Manchester United Eye Southampton’s Shea Charles
Everton and Manchester United are among several top-tier clubs showing interest in Southampton midfielder Shea Charles. The 22-year-old has been making waves after coming off the bench to score the winning goal in Southampton’s FA Cup quarter-final clash against Arsenal. His performance has not gone unnoticed, with his club valuing him at around £20 million.
Charles was initially signed by Southampton from Manchester City in 2023 for an initial fee of £11 million. At the time, Jason Wilcox was the director of football at Saints. The Northern Ireland international had previously captained City’s U21s and was brought in to replace Romeo Lavia, who had moved to Chelsea. There were high expectations for Charles, but things did not go as planned.
Under manager Russell Martin, Charles struggled to secure consistent playing time in the Premier League. The manager wanted to experiment with different formations, which left Charles uncertain about his future. To gain more experience, he went on loan to Sheffield Wednesday, where he played under Danny Rohl. Charles quickly became a standout player, earning the club’s Player of the Year award and being nominated for the Championship Young Player of the Year.
Rohl, now the manager of Rangers, is interested in bringing Charles back this summer. However, the Scottish side may not be able to match the financial demands of Southampton. Despite this, Charles’ performances have continued to attract attention from other clubs.

Everton’s Midfield Search
Everton is actively seeking midfield reinforcements as Idrissa Gana Gueye, their 35-year-old midfielder, is nearing the end of his contract. The club is looking to strengthen its squad ahead of the next season, with several potential targets under consideration.
Manchester United, on the other hand, is working on replacing Casemiro, who is set to leave the club. The Red Devils are targeting players such as Sandro Tonali of Newcastle United and Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest. However, they are also exploring options at the lower end of the budget scale, especially if they fail to qualify for the Champions League. This strategy comes as they prepare to replace Manuel Ugarte, who is being pursued by Galatasaray, Napoli, Juventus, and Ajax.
Interest from Other Clubs
In addition to Everton and Manchester United, two other Premier League clubs are reportedly keeping a close eye on Charles. An Italian side is also monitoring his progress. Charles has proven himself to be a valuable asset, scoring against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup earlier this season.
His performances have not gone unnoticed by scouts, even as he started for Northern Ireland in their World Cup play-off defeat to Italy earlier this month. So far this season, Charles has made 34 appearances and scored four goals, showcasing his potential as a key player for any club that signs him.
