Joanne McNally’s “AI Boyfriend” Saga: A Comedic Masterclass in Misdirection
Comedian Joanne McNally, known for her candid and often hilarious takes on life, has recently sent her online community into a delightful frenzy with the introduction of a new man in her life: Fionn. However, this introduction wasn’t met with straightforward congratulations. Instead, a wave of speculation and outright disbelief swept through her followers, leading McNally to address the “controversy” with her signature brand of sharp wit and sarcasm.
The comedian first unveiled Fionn to her digital audience in February. His appearance, however, sparked a rather unusual theory: that he was not a real person but rather a product of artificial intelligence, a cleverly crafted AI-generated image. This notion, apparently gaining traction in some media circles, prompted McNally to issue a statement that was as amusing as it was pointed.
“It has come to my attention,” McNally began, her words dripping with theatrical irony, “that several media outlets are suggesting that my new partner, Fionn, is some sort of AI-generated fake photo opportunity and that I’m not actually living with him in his six-bed, four-bath, south-facing penthouse in Walthamstow.”
She didn’t stop there, playfully challenging the accusations: “Firstly, how dare you,” she quipped. “Secondly, regarding the topless issue that so many of you have chosen to focus on.”
McNally then offered a tongue-in-cheek explanation for Fionn’s frequent lack of attire, attributing it to a severe form of ADHD. “Fionn has recently been diagnosed with a very severe form of ADHD, and THAT is why he is always exposed from the waist up, it’s ‘cause he forgets to bring a top, it’s part of his condition,” she explained. She swiftly dismissed any suggestions of “thirst” or “showboating” as “unfounded and frankly insulting to all and anyone struggling with neurodivergence.”

The comedian expressed her relief that Fionn remained blissfully unaware of the “reckless rumours circulating about him personally and us as a real-life couple.” McNally, who has always been open about her experiences as a single woman, continued with a mock threat: “Shame on you all, legal letters are coming.”
Her comedian friends quickly joined in on the fun, amplifying the comedic effect of McNally’s elaborate prank. Katherine Ryan and Emma Doran enthusiastically chimed in, expressing their delight at “meeting him.”

The playful banter continued with other notable figures. James Kavanagh humorously commented, “Me and William had a threesome with him last year, he’s fantastic, enjoy xxx.” Oti Mabuse, a judge on Dancing with the Stars, lauded McNally’s announcement, stating, “Joanne, you had me putting my phone down and clapping.” Another friend offered a nostalgic anecdote: “Jesus, he’s image of his Da … sending love you two x.”
The teasing didn’t end there. One follower quipped, “Joanne!!!!!! I used to babysit Fionn. Lovely family. I’ve a few stories I can tell you…. Good on ya. I’ll happily mansit him for you when you head out on single sundays xxx love you x.” Another commenter added, “I kissed him in The George last week lovely guy,” while actress Danielle Galligan humourously remarked, “Fionn is punching is all I’ll say.”

The “Fionn phenomenon” even reached the esteemed stage of The Late Late Show. During McNally’s appearance on Friday, March 13, host Patrick Kielty couldn’t resist inquiring about her “new relationship.” McNally, ever the quick-witted performer, playfully retorted, “You seem a little jealous Patrick!”

She then leaned into the AI narrative with a twinkle in her eye: “Oh, yeah, that’s Fionn, I invented him, he is absolutely mad about me, I resent the accusations that he is AI,” she joked. “I mean, I’ve dated guys with no intelligence, so artificial intelligence is great.”
Ultimately, the entire Fionn situation served as a brilliant testament to Joanne McNally’s comedic prowess. It demonstrated her ability to not only craft relatable and humorous content but also to cleverly manipulate public perception and engage her audience in a shared, imaginative experience. While the debate about Fionn’s authenticity raged, McNally’s fans were treated to a masterclass in comedic misdirection, proving that sometimes, the most entertaining stories are the ones that blur the lines between reality and a brilliantly executed joke. It’s a far cry from less inspired attempts at AI integration, making “Fionn” a memorable and uniquely Irish contribution to the digital landscape.
