A Record-Breaking Start for Young Pakistan Fast Bowler
The 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL) season witnessed a historic and unforgettable moment as a young Pakistani fast bowler made his debut. Unfortunately, the start was far from ideal when Lahore Qalandars’ innings began with a record-breaking over. The first over of the match was dispatched for an astonishing 26 runs by Mohammad Naeem, marking a new high in the PSL history for the most runs conceded in the first over of any innings.
Naeem’s maiden over started with five wides, which immediately set the tone for a challenging performance. Following this, another wide and one legal delivery resulted in a four. A further wide near the boundary saw Lahore Qalandars reach 14 without even bowling the second legal delivery. Naeem then added two more boundaries in that same over, taking the score to 22. Two singles at the end of the over brought the total to 26.
This achievement surpassed the previous record of 21 runs, which was held jointly by Imran Khalid and Mohammad Nawaz. Later in the game, Ismail managed to take the wicket of Parvez Hossain Emon, who had been in exceptional form, scoring 45 off just 19 balls. Ismail also dismissed Abdullah Shafique for 33 in the ninth over.
Highlights from the Rain-Affected Match
The match, played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, was shortened to 13 overs due to rain. Despite the weather conditions, Lahore Qalandars came out strongly after a delay. Their aggressive batting was led by Mohammad Naeem and Parvez Hossain Emon, who combined to score 86 runs in just 5 overs against nearly all the bowlers.
Peter Siddle was the only bowler who managed to restrict the scoring, conceding only 6 runs. However, the other bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught. Wasim, Nawaz, and Akram were all hit for over 16 runs in their early overs. By the end of 7 overs, Lahore Qalandars were at 123 for 1, still halfway through their innings.
Multan Sultans, on the other hand, were unbeaten in the match, led by their captain Ashton Turner. Fakhar Zaman was banned for two games due to ball tampering, which affected the team’s strategy.
