Tragedy Strikes in Fiji: Flight Attendant Killed in Roadside Accident

Lucinta Evans, a 28-year-old flight attendant with Virgin Australia, lost her life in a tragic roadside accident in Fiji. The incident occurred on March 28, just days after she celebrated her 28th birthday. She was struck by a taxi while standing on the roadside near Nadi Airport in Martintar, a central suburb of Nadi.

According to reports from the Fiji Times, the accident took place shortly after 5 am. A taxi driver, believed to be in his 30s, is suspected of causing the crash. The vehicle reportedly collided with another car before losing control and veering off the road. It then struck Lucinta as she stood on the roadside. She died at the scene.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident, and the driver is expected to be questioned by police. Preliminary findings suggest that driver negligence may have contributed to the fatal crash.

Lucinta’s family has described her as “bold, open, and full of life.” In a funeral notice, they asked attendees to wear colorful clothing in honor of her vibrant personality. Her sister, Gabriana Evans, shared heartfelt words about her.

“Right now, we are all trying to process this loss and ask for some privacy as we grieve together. Thank you for keeping Lucinta, her beloved partner, and our close family in your thoughts and prayers during this time.”

A GoFundMe campaign was launched to support Lucinta’s family. Part of the funds will be used to advocate for road safety and create a memorial plaque at the site of the accident. Organiser Luisa Ledua said:

“A portion of the funds will also be used in Lucinta’s memory – through road safety advocacy or a memorial plaque – with the hope of raising awareness and helping prevent future incidents at this location.”

Virgin Australia’s Fijian cabin crew members have shared heartfelt tributes to Lucinta. Lissy Hyde, a cabin manager, expressed her grief:

“As your Cabin Manager, I come back to the place where it all happened. I won’t be able to look after you anymore on our flights or anything about work. I ask you to look after us from above. Fly with us my girl, beat us to every destination so we know you’re there. You are loved, and we will continue to live life as bright and loud as you.”

She added, “Wish I was on this trip with her to keep her safe.”

Another flight attendant shared her feelings:

“She will be incredibly missed. I’m thinking of our VA Fijian family so much! Losing crew is like losing family, and I can’t imagine how you’re feeling, but love you all so much.”

A former Virgin Australia cabin crew member paid tribute to Lucinta:

“Beautiful tribute for an even more beautiful girl. She was the life of the party, main character baddie with the best personality and got along with anyone she crossed paths with! Gone way too soon, beautiful Cinta, fly high.”

Lucinta’s passing has left a deep impact on her colleagues and loved ones. Her memory will continue to inspire those who knew her.
