Niall Horan’s Pub Regret and Health Concerns: A Look Inside the Star’s Life
Former One Direction sensation Niall Horan has opened up about a rather unique regret concerning his home, a decision made long before his current relationship with girlfriend Amelia Woolley. The chart-topping artist, known for hits like “Slow Hands,” confessed that he once constructed a fully functional pub in the basement of his London residence, a project he now views as a significant misstep.
During a candid chat on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Horan explained the genesis of this ambitious undertaking. “I was a single bachelor in an apartment in London,” he recalled. “We built a pub in the basement. I mean a pub, and it has to be the worst idea I’ve ever had.”
The reasoning behind this seemingly extravagant addition quickly became clear when Kimmel probed further. Horan elaborated on the practicalities of London nightlife, noting the early closing times. “Pubs close in London at 11 o’clock. Last orders is 10:30am, there’s no 2 am finishes like here, right?” he stated, highlighting the stark contrast with the late-night culture he’d experienced elsewhere. This meant his meticulously crafted pub often found itself empty and underutilised, leading to a sense of anticlimax.
The singer went on to describe the ironic outcome of his home pub. “So all of a sudden, I’ve got a house full of people, but I do have a little, kind of side entrance to the house that I can just kind of ferry people out the door,” he admitted with a laugh. “I’m actually pretty good at it. It’s music off, lights on, on your way. The ignorant Irish kicks in.” This humorous anecdote sheds light on his resourceful, albeit slightly abrupt, hosting style.
A Serendipitous Meeting and a Budding Romance
Beyond his home renovations, Horan also touched upon his relationship with Amelia Woolley, a fashion buyer and marketing professional. The couple, who have been dating since 2020 and made their public debut in September 2021, first crossed paths approximately six years ago. Horan revealed that Woolley was a “late addition” to a dinner party he was hosting at his home.
When questioned about whether the meeting was a deliberate setup, Horan remained playfully coy. “Never asked the question… But it definitely worked out in the end, whatever, whatever the plan was but you don’t see those things as big deals. And then six years later… it worked out.” This understated account underscores the organic nature of their connection.

Following his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Niall and Amelia were photographed leaving the studio, radiating happiness. Amelia, in particular, turned heads with her chic ensemble, featuring a grey wool blazer coat layered over a white tank top and jeans. She accessorised her look with beige suede heels and a stylish khaki suede handbag, showcasing her impeccable fashion sense. Both Niall and Amelia donned dark sunglasses, and the pair were seen engaged in animated conversation as they made their way to a waiting car, a picture of a couple clearly enjoying each other’s company.

Navigating Health Hurdles: A Lingering Concern
More recently, Niall Horan’s public discussions have also included his ongoing health challenges. Just days before embarking on his new tour, the “Mullingar native” revealed significant concerns about his physical well-being, particularly regarding his joints.
Horan has a history of knee issues, having undergone reconstructive surgery on his knee back in 2014. However, the singer, now 32, expressed fears that he might require a hip replacement in the future, as he feels his joints are deteriorating with age.
In a candid conversation on The Zach Sang Show, Horan didn’t hold back from detailing his discomfort. “My knees are fed. The hips are going now too,” he admitted frankly. He went on to speculate about a genetic predisposition to joint problems. “I think I was just genetically fed from the day I was born.”

He drew parallels with his father, Bobby, who is also experiencing similar health issues. “My dad is 66 this year. He’s just had a knee replacement. He’s had a hip done 18 months ago. He’s getting another hip done now.” Despite the age difference, Niall sees a clear pattern. “I know, but it was clearly in there,” he stated, referring to the family history of joint problems. “My uncle had two knees done. Like, it’s a thing. I think I was just ruined from the day I was born.” This revelation offers a glimpse into the personal battles the usually upbeat singer has been quietly facing.
