A Nostalgic Reunion on The Pitt
Noah Wyle and Mary McCormack made a memorable return to the screen together in the latest episode of The Pitt, marking an onscreen reunion that fans of their previous work on ER are sure to appreciate. The episode, which aired on Thursday night, saw Wyle, 54, and McCormack, 57, reuniting in a significant way as they both played key roles in the medical drama.
In this particular episode, McCormack took on the role of Dr. Linda Conley, the neurosurgeon chief, while Wyle, who also serves as a writer, director, and producer for HBO’s The Pitt, continues to play a central role in the show. Their collaboration is not only a personal milestone but also a nod to their shared history on ER, where they portrayed Dr. John Carter and Debbie, respectively. The iconic NBC series ran from 1994 to 2009 and remains a beloved staple of television.
Wyle was part of ER for its first 11 seasons and returned as a guest star in season 12, while McCormack appeared in seasons 10 and 12. Their recent appearance on The Pitt highlights the ongoing connections between the two shows, with The Pitt being created by R. Scott Gemmill and John Wells, who were also involved in ER.

Beyond their onscreen collaboration, Wyle and McCormack have also crossed paths in real life. In October 2023, they stood together on the SAG-AFTRA picket line in Los Angeles during the strike, showing their support for industry workers. Later, in August 2024, Wyle gave a heartfelt shoutout to McCormack on Instagram, sharing a photo of her book What’s Next: A Backstage Pass to The West Wing, Its Cast and Crew, and Its Enduring Legacy of Service, which she co-wrote with Melissa Fitzgerald.
In his caption, Wyle wrote, “Congrats to my dear friend Mary McCormack on the completion and release of this fabulous book. The time couldn’t be more right to revisit the intentionality behind this iconic series. I highly recommend.”
McCormack has had a long and varied career, appearing in TV shows such as House of Lies, Murder One, In Plain Sight, and Heels. She has also starred in films like Unpregnant, True Crime, and For Your Consideration.
Meanwhile, Wyle’s wife, Sara, made a guest appearance in the latest ER episode, playing a patient with liver inflammation. Her previous credits include roles on Leverage: Redemption, Nip/Tuck, and Californication.

The new episode of The Pitt comes at a time of significant change for the show, with a cast shake-up that includes the departure of Supriya Ganesh. The actress, who has played senior resident Dr. Samira Mohan since the beginning of the series, will be leaving at the end of season two.
Additionally, Ayesha Harris, who portrays senior night shift resident Dr. Parker Ellis, has been promoted to a series regular, according to Variety. A source with knowledge of the situation explained that Ganesh’s exit is tied to the storyline, as The Pitt takes place at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, a teaching hospital where residents often come and go. This development adds another layer of realism to the show, reflecting the dynamic nature of medical training environments.
