One of 2025’s most chilling films is available to stream today

Weapons, a horror and mystery film that has captivated audiences for the past year, is now available to stream. The movie was released in August 2025 and quickly became a global success, earning $270 million against a budget of $38 million. It also received numerous awards during the awards season.

Critics praised its intriguing story and superbly orchestrated finale, which sparked discussions about a potential follow-up film. If you missed the original hype or want to experience the supernatural spookiness again, you can now watch Weapons on Sky Cinema and NowTV.

Directed and written by Zach Cregger, Weapons follows the case of 17 children from the same classroom who mysteriously run away on the same night at the same time. The tight-knit community and distressed parents are left searching for answers about who or what could be behind their disappearance, with attention also turning to the one child who did not vanish.

The ensemble cast includes Josh Brolin as Archer Graff, a construction contractor and the father of Matthew, one of the missing children; Julia Garner as Justine Gandy, the elementary school teacher whose students disappeared; Alden Ehrenreich as Paul Morgan, a cop and Justine’s ex-boyfriend; and Austin Abrams as James, a homeless drug addict and burglar. Other stars include Cary Christopher as Alex Lilly, the only child still home safely; Benedict Wong as school principal Marcus Miller; Sara Paxton and Justin Long as the parents of missing child Bailey; and Scarlett Sher as the eerie child narrator.

Amy Madigan, who plays Alex’s elderly and eccentric aunt Gladys, undoubtedly steals the show. She earned widespread acclaim for her role, winning an Actor Award, a Critics’ Choice Award, and a Best Supporting Actress Oscar, among others. She was also nominated for a Golden Globe.

Madigan’s performance helped Weapons achieve a 93% critics’ score and an 85% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Jazzmin Crawley of the Girl, That’s Scary podcast describes Weapons as “uniquely delightful and terrifying,” while Robert Roten of Laramie Movie Scope says: “This horror film goes from being simply creepy to mysterious to fascinating as it moves along its way towards a surprising conclusion.”

Tony Stamp of Flicks states, “Weapons might just be a masterpiece,” and Stephen A. Russell of Orion’s Shoulder urges Madigan to “take a bow.” Fans also praised her performance, with one user saying, “Very unsettling and scary movie with a great plot twist.” Another fan wrote, “The star here is Amy Madigan as the crazy aunt. This kept my interest.”

Cregger has already discussed a potential sequel, telling Variety that he could “definitely” see himself working on another story set in the same world. He mentioned having another idea for something in this world that he is excited about, though he may not work on it immediately.

A prequel titled Gladys is in the works, with Cregger penning the screenplay alongside Zach Shields. The news generated significant buzz on social media, with fans expressing excitement about the project. One user mused, “Could Amy Madigan become the first actor to win the Oscar twice for playing the same character?”

Madigan admitted in December that she never viewed Gladys as a villain. She told Screen Daily, “I thought, ‘This woman is fantastic. She’s very original.’ I didn’t see her that way. She has a great confidence and vivaciousness, and an ability to be laser sharp. It was just joyful to be able to do that.”
