Exciting Encounter at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium
The Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh is set to host an exciting afternoon match as Punjab Kings face off against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 17 of IPL 2026. This weekend encounter is crucial for both teams as they aim to secure important points in the ongoing tournament.
Punjab Kings, the only other team that remains unbeaten so far, have been performing exceptionally well this season. They have secured two consecutive wins in their opening fixtures and are eager to continue this momentum. Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, PBKS has shown a well-balanced approach, with key contributors like Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and debutant Cooper Connolly excelling with the bat. The bowling unit has also stepped up when required, adding depth to the team’s performance.
On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad have had a challenging start to the tournament, managing just one win and two losses so far. Heinrich Klaasen has been their primary source of runs, while players such as Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma have shown glimpses of their potential. SRH will be looking to improve consistency across both batting and bowling departments, especially in the bowling line-up.
At the toss, Punjab Kings won the decision and opted to bowl first. Here’s what the captains had to say:
Shreyas Iyer’s Comments
“We’re going to bowl first. It’s a day game, and obviously, we want to get a sense of how the wicket is playing and have a fair idea. But other than that, that’s what we’ve been doing in the last couple of games. We’ve been thriving on that. (Things to address?) I personally feel that you can’t control the nature of the weather. You’ve just got to go with the flow. And I personally feel that we don’t have to address anything at any point of time. Just back each other, back all the youngsters in the team. The more you tell them, the more confusing it gets for them. So, it’s better that they live in their own nature and express themselves. No, we’re going with the same team. Actually, bowling first, Priyansh comes in for Nehal.”
Ishan Kishan’s Comments
“We would have loved to bowl first. But yeah, I think the wicket looks pretty hard to me. And it’s about playing good cricket in the first innings. (On captaining) Obviously, it’s a big disadvantage for any team, Pat is a tremendous bowler. He gets on with an experience of his. But still, I feel we’ve got a young side, young bowlers today in the team. And hopefully, we’ll just try and execute the plans, which is the most important thing in T20 cricket. Yeah, there are two changes. Salil comes in in place of Livingstone and Praful Hinge, it’s his debut game, in place of Jaydev Unadkat.”
