Emotional Tribute from Adelaide Captain Jordan Dawson
Adelaide captain Jordan Dawson has shared a heartfelt message on social media, paying tribute to his late brother Jaryd. The emotional post came just days after Jaryd’s passing, with Jordan expressing the deep pain he feels.
Jaryd went missing on Wednesday and was found later that evening. Authorities have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious. In his tribute, Jordan wrote: “My brother. My idol. The hole in my heart hurts so bad pal but I know you’re at peace. You made me who I am today, and I’m going to pass every bit of that competitive, stubborn, caring and passionate nature onto your beautiful boy.”
The message also included a heartfelt note for Jaryd’s wife, Jessica, and their son, Huddy. “Huddy and Jess have an army behind them. I’ll miss you and love you forever Rod.”
Jordan was visibly emotional during a tribute paid to his brother during Adelaide’s match against St Kilda on Saturday night. At the 12th minute of the first quarter, a photo of Jaryd and his family was displayed on the big screen, with fans encouraged to show their support through clapping.
Dawson, who was not playing in the game but was present at the ground in a corporate box, was seen with his head in his hands, clearly affected by the moment. His presence and emotions were evident throughout the tribute.
Jaryd’s wife, Jessica Carter Dawson, also shared a touching message on Instagram, describing herself as “shattered into a million pieces” following the loss.
Although Jordan was ruled out of the game on Thursday, he attended the match on Saturday night. He was seated alongside his wife, Millie Dawson, and injured Crows defender Mark Keane. Before the game started, Jordan was also seen in the corporate box, showing his support for the team.
Adelaide’s performance in the game was affected by the emotionally charged week, with the team starting slowly. However, they managed to regain momentum in the second term and turned the game into a high-scoring affair in the second half. The Crows built a four-goal lead, which was eventually closed by the Saints. The game came down to a single point, with veteran player Taylor Walker scoring six goals to secure the win.
This victory was significant not only for the team’s season but also for Jordan Dawson, who has been through a difficult week. Speaking after the game, Crows coach Matthew Nicks praised the team’s response to the tribute.
“It’s not an easy one for me to talk to, to be honest,” Nicks said. “The 12-minute mark (tribute), I didn’t actually know that was going to happen; I thought it was beautiful, just the respect that is here.”
Nicks highlighted the importance of the football club as a supportive environment during tough times. “Footy clubs are a great place to be when you have moments like these and go through tough times. We’re all there for the Dawson family and all the extended family. It has been a really, really tough week.”
He also mentioned the significance of Jordan and Millie being present before the game. “It was great to have Jordan and Millie in the rooms pre-game tonight; that was really tough for them, but it was good to have them around the group. And for the guys to get up, too. He just wanted to see us play the way we play, and we put it out there for most of the game, so we should be proud of ourselves, and hopefully he is.”
