The PlayStation 5 price increase has officially taken effect, but some UK retailers are still offering the older prices, which could save consumers £90.

The most expensive console generation just became even more expensive after Sony announced a £90 price hike across all PlayStation 5 models. However, not all retailers have followed suit, at least not yet.

The price increase came into effect on Thursday, April 2, raising the cost of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition to £519.99, the PlayStation 5 slim with a disc drive to £569.99, and the PS5 Pro to an impressive £789.99. Additionally, the PS Portal saw a £20 increase, bringing its price to £219.99.

Despite this, the price hike has only been rolled out on PlayStation Direct. Other UK retailers, outside of Sony’s control, have not yet updated their prices.

On platforms like Argos and Smyths, customers can still find PlayStation 5 consoles at the previous, lower prices. This means the digital edition is available for £429.99, the PlayStation 5 slim for £479.99, the PS5 Pro for £699.99, and the PS Portal for £199.99.

  • On Smyths, the PS5 Pro is currently discounted by £10, making it available for £689.99.
  • The retailer is also offering bundles for other systems, such as a PlayStation 5 slim disc console with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 or Astro Bot for £519.99 — the same price the system alone is meant to be following the price hike.

For those looking for the cheapest options, EE.co.uk offers the PlayStation 5 digital edition and standard console slightly below average prices, at £419 and £465 respectively. However, an account is required to make a purchase.
