Chilling CCTV Captures Suspect Fleeing Sydney Triple Stabbing Scene
Shocking CCTV footage has emerged, providing a glimpse of a suspect making a hasty retreat from the scene of a horrific triple stabbing that has rocked Sydney’s west. The daylight attack, which unfolded in Merrylands on Tuesday morning, has left one man dead and two others in critical condition, sending shockwaves through the community.
The footage, obtained by local news outlets, shows a man dressed in a white T-shirt and a hat navigating Railway Terrace, in close proximity to Merrylands train station. He is seen walking with his hands on his hips, appearing to be struggling for breath. A woman, pushing a pram approximately 20 metres ahead, turns and notices the man. She then momentarily disappears behind a parked truck on the street. Upon reappearing, she breaks into a run, pushing the pram, before vanishing from the camera’s view. The suspect, still with his hands clasped at his waist, is then seen jogging in pursuit of the woman.

The brutal stabbing triggered an immediate and extensive manhunt. Authorities apprehended a suspect roughly 40 minutes later in the backyard of a residence on Smythe Street, a short distance off Railway Terrace and a mere five-minute walk from the site of the attack. Detectives have been diligently scouring nearby gardens for crucial evidence and have been conducting door-to-door inquiries, speaking with residents in an effort to gather more information. One property has been cordoned off as part of the ongoing investigation.
Witnesses have reported seeing a man fleeing the mini-supermarket where the stabbing occurred, allegedly armed with a large knife. It is understood that this CCTV footage has been secured by detectives as a vital component of their investigation.
A Community in Mourning: The Victims and the Aftermath
Emergency services were dispatched to Memorial Avenue in Merrylands shortly after 10 am on Tuesday following reports of a stabbing incident. Upon arrival, officers were informed that a man had attacked multiple individuals before fleeing the scene on foot along Merrylands Road.
Tragically, one man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. While he is yet to be formally identified, he is believed to be in his 30s or 40s, according to police.
Two other individuals, a 47-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, were rushed to Westmead Hospital, where they are currently in a critical condition. The incident is believed to have taken place inside a local mini-market.

The swift apprehension of a suspect in a backyard on Smythe Street, a short time after the incident, marked a significant development in the case. As of Tuesday afternoon, no charges had been formally laid.
Police Statement and Investigation Details
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday afternoon, Superintendent Simon Glasser provided an update on the investigation. He revealed that the arrested man is known to police for “low-level crime” and has a history of mental health issues. “The alleged offender is known to police for petty crime and a number of mental health incidents,” Superintendent Glasser stated.
He indicated that the stabbing appeared to be a “random attack.” “It’s very early in the investigation,” he cautioned. “Police are unaware at this point what the motive was… it appears it was a random attack.”
A kitchen knife, measuring approximately 20cm to 30cm in length, was recovered from the scene. Superintendent Glasser noted, “It’s unclear just yet if it is the weapon used in the offence.”

The Superintendent described the scene as “highly confronting.” “It’s a horrible offence to have taken place in Merrylands,” he remarked. “Just prior to lunchtime, lots of people around. It would obviously be very confronting for anyone that was in the area at the time.”
Harrowing Witness Accounts Emerge
Local resident Joseph Ruissi recounted the terrifying moments leading up to the discovery of the stabbing. He was walking along Merrylands Road towards the supermarket when he heard a woman’s “deathly scream” emanating from a shop across the street. “It was horrible, absolutely horrible,” he told reporters. “I stopped in the middle of the road and there’s this lady who had a scarf around her neck. There’s a man, he was holding her neck and there was blood gushing down onto her legs and scarf.”
Mr. Ruissi stated that he did not get a clear view of the suspect, as his immediate concern was to assist the woman, who he believed was in her 30s. “All I was worried about was the poor thing,” he said. “Every second felt like a year.”

Another local, who had just visited a nearby pharmacy, described seeing a “lanky” man carrying a large knife walk past him in the direction of the train station. Police were present at the station moments later, with commuters directing officers towards the overpass, indicating the direction the man had taken.
