NASHVILLE — Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Ray Stevens has experienced a recent health scare, breaking his neck and currently recovering at home after a brief hospitalization. A statement published on Tuesday revealed the details of his condition.
The 87-year-old country star, recognized for his unique style of topical satire, fell late last month, according to the statement released on his X account. As part of his recovery process, Stevens will need to wear a neck brace for approximately one month. Despite the injury, the statement emphasized that he remains fully mobile and in good spirits.
Stevens has enjoyed a long and successful career in the music industry, with a discography that includes several notable hits. Among his most acclaimed works is the Grammy-winning “Everything Is Beautiful,” which has become a classic in the country genre. Another standout track is “The Streak,” a humorous piece that captured the mid-1970s trend of running naked in public.
Born Harold Ray Ragsdale, Stevens’s music has often reflected social commentary. In 1961, he released “Jeremiah Peabody’s Poly Unsaturated Quick Dissolving Fast Acting Pleasant Tasting Green and Purple Pills,” a song that poked fun at the advertising industry’s exaggerated claims.

Fans can look forward to the release of Stevens’ latest album, which is scheduled to come out on Friday through Curb Records. This new project marks another milestone in his long-standing career.
In July, Stevens faced another health challenge when he suffered a mild heart attack and underwent heart surgery. Following this incident, his performances at his CabaRay Showroom in Nashville, Tennessee, were canceled for the remainder of the month as he focused on his recovery.
Stevens continues to be a beloved figure in the music world, known not only for his talent but also for his ability to blend humor with meaningful messages. His contributions to country music have left a lasting impact, and fans remain hopeful for his continued success and well-being.
