Mickey Rourke Touches Down in Los Angeles Amidst Ongoing Housing Woes
Mickey Rourke, the seasoned 73-year-old actor known for his intense roles and candid persona, was recently spotted making a return to Los Angeles. The Oscar-nominated star was seen looking relaxed and casual as he arrived following a work-related trip to Utah.
Dressed in an ash grey sweatsuit, complemented by sunglasses, a necklace, and classic white Adidas trainers, Rourke exuded a comfortable vibe on the bright Southern Californian day. He was seen keeping hydrated with a substantial bottle of water during the daytime outing. Accompanying him was a companion, sporting a tie-dyed hoodie, who assisted with the actor’s luggage as they navigated the arrival.

Rourke’s recent work took him to Utah, where he was engaged in filming for the upcoming movie, Sol Hershowitz’s Guide to Extraterrestrial Life. In this project, the actor is set to portray a conspiracy theorist, a role that promises to tap into his well-established dramatic range.
However, beyond the silver screen, Rourke’s living situation has been a prominent topic of discussion in recent months. The situation escalated late last year when his former landlord, Eric T. Goldie, initiated legal proceedings to evict the actor from a property he had been renting. According to court filings from December 18, Goldie alleged that Rourke had occupied the home for a significant portion of the previous year, accumulating rental arrears exceeding $59,100.
The legal battle took a decisive turn earlier this month when Goldie was granted a default judgment in the eviction case. This came about after Rourke failed to respond to the eviction notice within the legally stipulated timeframe under California law. Consequently, the court awarded Goldie immediate possession of the property, effectively terminating the lease agreement and barring Rourke from the residence.
Rourke Explains Rent Stoppage Amidst Eviction Drama
In response to the eviction proceedings and the public attention it garnered, Rourke’s team issued a statement to the Daily Mail earlier this month, shedding light on the actor’s perspective regarding the rental dispute.
The actor’s representatives explained that the decision to cease rent payments stemmed from what they described as “unacceptable” living conditions within the house.
- Ongoing Unaddressed Issues: Rourke’s team detailed that for months, the property suffered from serious problems that repeatedly went unresolved, despite the actor’s persistent efforts to have them rectified.
- Rodent Infestation: A significant concern highlighted was an ongoing rodent problem. Multiple attempts were made to address this issue, but it was never fully resolved, leading to continued discomfort and unsanitary conditions.
- Plumbing and Bathroom Malfunctions: Furthermore, the statement pointed to frequent issues with the bathroom and plumbing systems. These essential facilities were often not functioning correctly, impacting daily life within the home.
Rourke himself expressed that he made “repeated requests for repairs,” but the persistent problems and a lack of basic maintenance meant the situation never improved. He emphasized that the decision to withhold rent was not taken lightly.
“Withholding rent was not a decision [he] made lightly,” Rourke’s statement read, “but he felt it was the only move he had after repeatedly being ignored over critical issues involving the home.” He further elaborated, stating, “I simply could not continue paying for a house that was in such poor condition after so many attempts to have these issues corrected.”

Gratitude and Accountability Amidst Personal Struggles
Despite the recent challenges related to his living situation, the Angel Heart actor conveyed a sense of gratitude for numerous aspects of his life, particularly the opportunity to return to his acting career.
“They let me slowly go back to work – I’m behaving myself, I was on time – there was no hotel room broken up,” Rourke remarked, reflecting on his recent work experience. He candidly acknowledged a period of personal difficulty, stating, “I did everything wrong for 20 years, and then… took me 23 years of therapy.”
Adding to his public statements, Rourke, who reportedly turned down six-figure GoFundMe donations from fans following the news of his housing struggles, expressed a readiness to take responsibility for his past actions.
“The only person I got to blame for what happened to me,” Rourke asserted, “was me.”
He maintained a perspective of humility and appreciation for his current circumstances, even amidst adversity. “I got it a lot better off than a lot of people – I got a roof over my head – I got some food in the icebox; my dogs aren’t going hungry.” This statement underscores a profound sense of gratitude for basic necessities and the well-being of his pets, even as he navigates more complex personal and legal issues.
