Desperate Plea Issued in Tucson for Missing Mother as Search Enters Seventh Week
The family of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, who disappeared from her home in the Catalina Foothills neighbourhood near Tucson, Arizona, in the early hours of February 1st, has issued an impassioned plea to the local community. Investigators are treating her disappearance as an abduction, and the family is urging residents to meticulously “search their memories” and any available security camera footage for any clues that might lead to her safe return.
Savannah Guthrie and her siblings are appealing to the public for assistance.
In a recent statement shared on Instagram, Savannah Guthrie, the well-known host of the Today show, emphasised the potential significance of seemingly minor details. “It’s possible a member of this community has information that they do not even realise is significant,” she wrote. The family is specifically asking residents to cast their minds back to key timelines: the evening of January 11th, and the period encompassing January 31st through the early morning hours of February 1st.
“We desperately ask this community for renewed attention to our mom’s case — please consult camera footage, journal notes, text messages, observations, or conversations that in retrospect may hold significance,” the statement continued. “No detail is too small. It may be the key.”
The circumstances surrounding Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance are deeply concerning. Forensic investigators discovered drops of her blood on the front porch of her residence. Further compounding the worry, the FBI released surveillance footage on February 10th, which captured a masked individual at her doorstep on the night she vanished. Despite these disturbing findings, authorities have revealed very little additional evidence that could point towards any specific suspects in the case of the 84-year-old.
The Guthrie children have previously appeared in public appeals, sharing heartfelt videos begging for their mother’s safe return. To further incentivise assistance, they have also offered a substantial reward of $1 million for any information that leads to Nancy Guthrie’s recovery.
The family’s latest statement underscores their profound anguish and unwavering resolve. “We miss our mom with every breath, and we cannot be in peace until she is home. We cannot grieve; we can only ache and wonder. Our focus is solely on finding her and bringing her home,” the statement read. They expressed a desire to celebrate her “beautiful and courageous life,” but stated they cannot do so until she is brought to a “final place of rest.” The family concluded by thanking the community for their continued prayers. The statement was signed by “The Guthrie Family,” identifying the siblings as Camron and Kristine, Annie and Tommaso, and Savannah and Michael.
Renewed Focus and Ongoing Investigation
This renewed appeal comes as the search for Nancy Guthrie enters its seventh week. The family’s statement coincides with a special broadcast by local news station News 4 Tucson, titled “Bring Her Home — The Disappearance of Nancy Guthrie,” which aired on Saturday in an effort to bring greater public attention to the case.

While the investigation is ongoing, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos shared some insights with NBC News earlier this month. Sheriff Nanos indicated that investigators believe they have identified a motive for the alleged kidnapping. “We believe we know why [the kidnapper] did this and we believe that it was targeted, but we’re not 100 percent sure of that,” Nanos stated. He added that their strong suspicions about what transpired on day one of the investigation have not wavered.
Both the Sheriff’s Department and the FBI have been actively engaged in analysing DNA samples collected from Nancy Guthrie’s home and the surrounding neighbourhood. They are also meticulously reviewing the doorbell camera footage that captured the masked suspect. However, authorities have remained tight-lipped about the specifics of their progress, offering no further details on the current stage of their investigation or whether any new leads have emerged.

The community’s cooperation is seen as vital in cracking this case. The family’s plea highlights the importance of every individual’s potential contribution, no matter how small it may seem. The hope remains that by encouraging a thorough re-examination of recent events and any stored digital records, a crucial piece of information will surface, bringing Nancy Guthrie home safely.
