NORTH AUGUSTA, SC. – More than 6,000 individuals with disabilities in the CSRA have the opportunity to engage in recreational activities thanks to the Recing Crew. This local nonprofit organization has been making a difference in the lives of people with disabilities for over two decades.
The Recing Crew was founded by Pamela Stickler, who has dedicated more than 20 years to providing opportunities for children and adults with disabilities. The organization offers a variety of programs that allow participants to enjoy sports, arts, and other activities tailored to their needs.
One of the key ways the Recing Crew continues its mission is through fundraising events. Recently, a car wash fundraiser helped support the organization’s efforts. Stickler emphasized the importance of such events for a non-profit like hers.
“Being a non-profit you have to find ways to generate funding for the different things you do. A program like this fundraiser helps us offset the expenses for things that we do,” said Stickler, who serves as president and founder of the Recing Crew.
Since its founding in 2002, the Recing Crew has provided recreational activities for individuals with disabilities in the CSRA. Last year alone, the organization served more than 6,000 people across 14 programs. One of the largest expenses for the organization is sending members to the YMCA’s Camp Lakeside.
“We want that to be a free all day event for our individuals. The individuals we serve are generally low income to begin with,” Stickler explained.
Recently, Tidal Wave in North Augusta supported the Recing Crew’s mission as part of its grand opening. The business hosted a car wash fundraiser, offering free washes and directing money from every wash and new membership to the Recing Crew.
“I take a lot of pride in getting to work with an organization like Tidal Wave that is focused on giving back to local communities. This is our first mini give back day that we participate in. We do a national charity day that will occur in September,” said Ryan Waters of Tidal Wave.
Stickler expressed her gratitude to the community for their support.
“I want to thank the community and everyone who is coming out today,” she said.
