From Displaced to Determined: Sophie’s Australian Idol Ascent
Two years ago, a life-altering decision by her mother saw 19-year-old Sophie packing her bags and leaving home. This abrupt departure, however, proved to be the catalyst for a profound personal transformation, propelling her from the Gold Coast to the vibrant creative hub of Melbourne. It was this move, she now reveals, that laid the groundwork for her inspiring journey on Australian Idol.
“She called me up and kicked me out of home – but in the best way possible,” Sophie shares, reflecting on the pivotal moment. “She explained it was tough love, that she adored me, but for me to truly blossom and become my best self, a change of scenery was necessary.”

Melbourne, it seems, has become Sophie’s muse. “I owe Melbourne everything, including this opportunity to be on the show,” she states with conviction. “Moving there was incredibly inspiring. Witnessing other young, ambitious artists dedicating themselves to their craft and demonstrating an insatiable hunger for this industry truly ignited my own passion.”
The initial nine months in her new city were, by Sophie’s own admission, a period of profound loneliness. However, rather than succumbing to isolation, she channelled her energy into immersing herself in Melbourne’s dynamic creative landscape. This proactive approach saw her pursuing a dual passion for both music and modelling.
Navigating the Modelling World
Sophie has found her modelling experiences to be largely positive. “I’ve had an amazing time modelling,” she comments. However, she acknowledges the inherent challenges within certain sectors of the industry. “I think as I’ve gained a bit more experience, I’m encountering different jobs where it can be quite competitive, and there are those kinds of toxic industry standards that can be difficult to navigate.”
Despite these occasional hurdles, her confidence has remained unshaken. Now, as she embarks on the Australian Idol journey, Sophie is buoyed by the unwavering support of her family. Her mother, the very person who initiated her independent path, stands as her most ardent cheerleader.
A Mother’s Unwavering Support
“She’s the one who started it all,” Sophie says, a warm smile gracing her features. “She was the first to recognise my singing talent and encouraged me to take lessons. She’s the most selfless and the most sarcastic person I know. It’s quite remarkable how she manages to embody both qualities so perfectly!”
Viewers can catch Sophie’s performances and the unfolding drama of Australian Idol every Sunday at 7pm and Monday at 7:30pm. The live results show, where eliminations are announced, airs on Tuesdays at 7:30pm on Channel Seven or can be streamed on 7Plus.
