Sydney Sweeney Stars in “Christy”

Sweeney not only stars in the film but also serves as a producer. Her portrayal of Martin has been praised for capturing both the strength and vulnerability of the boxer, who faced challenges from her abusive manager-turned-husband, played by Ben Foster. Critics have highlighted Sweeney’s powerful performance, which spans Martin’s journey from her small-town roots to her professional career.
A New Film on Nigerian History
Another notable release this week is Akinola Davies Jr.’s “My Father’s Shadow,” which begins streaming on MUBI on Friday, April 10. The film, loosely based on Davies’ own experiences, tells the story of two Nigerian boys who spend a day with their father during a pivotal moment in the country’s history. Described as a “gem” by AP Film Writer Lindsey Bahr, the film offers a deeply felt memory piece and a vibrant portrait of Nigeria in 1993.
Jonah Hill’s New Hollywood Satire
Jonah Hill returns to directing with “Outcome,” a Hollywood satire that features Keanu Reeves as a movie star named Reef Hawk. The film explores the impact of a video that could ruin his reputation. Hill, who also co-wrote the film, plays Reef’s crisis-management lawyer. “Outcome” debuts on Apple TV on Friday, April 10.
