Strictly Come Dancing Host Search Intensifies
With just five months until the 24th series of Strictly Come Dancing is set to begin, BBC bosses are under pressure to find new hosts for the beloved show. The departure of long-time presenters Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly has created a significant gap, and with the clock ticking, the search for replacements has become a top priority.
This year’s host search has taken an unusual turn, with leaks about celebrity competitors typically emerging around this time of year. Instead, the focus remains on securing new presenting talent. After months of speculation and several high-profile names turning down the opportunity, nine stars have been shortlisted for a series of secret auditions.
The auditions, which will take place in a top-secret location in London, are expected to be intense. Celebrities will participate in full-scale dress rehearsals alongside a judging panel and live band, all while signing strict NDAs to ensure the process remains confidential. A source revealed that the selection process goes beyond reading from the autocue, emphasizing the importance of chemistry and humor.
Among those confirmed to be in the final round are Rylan Clark, Emma Willis, Tom Allen, podcast host Angela Scanlon, and The One Show presenter Alex Jones. Other names include This Morning host Alison Hammond, The Chase presenter Bradley Walsh, RuPaul’s Drag Race star La Voix, and Radio 2’s Zoe Ball.
A source shared insights into the BBC’s expectations: “They really want to bring the fun this year. It’s all about chemistry who clicks instantly and can keep the energy up live on air. They could stick with two female hosts as that’s worked brilliantly. But they’re also open to mixing it up.”
The potential pairings being considered range from Rylan and Tom Allen, which could create a hilarious dynamic, to introducing a third presenter to shake things up. Nothing is off the table, and the BBC is testing various combinations to find the perfect fit.
Behind-the-Scenes Changes
In addition to the host search, there have been significant changes among the professional dancers. Several long-serving dancers, including Karen Hauer, Michelle Tsiakkas, Nadiya Bychkova, Luba Mushtuk, and Gorka Marquez, have been dropped from the line-up. Sources suggest that the decision was influenced by the dancers’ online presence, particularly their following on TikTok.
It is claimed that dancers with larger online followings were prioritized over those with less engagement, as the BBC aims to attract younger viewers. For example, Nadiya Bychkova, who has 19,000 followers, was axed, while Dianne Buswell, with 966,000 followers, retained her spot.

Alison Hammond Reconsiders Hosting Role
Alison Hammond, known for her work on This Morning and The Great British Bake Off, has recently backtracked on her previous rejection of the Strictly hosting role. Initially, she had expressed concerns about her busy schedule, but in a recent interview, she clarified her stance.
“I was trying to back them off because ultimately everyone keeps putting my name in the mix and they’re ruining my chances of even getting on to Strictly,” she said. “You all need to stop talking about it because I need to get in.”
Hammond emphasized that she is not too busy and is fitter than ever, stating, “I can do Strictly. I can do it all.”

Bradley Walsh as a Strong Contender
Bradley Walsh has emerged as a strong contender for the hosting role. However, his current responsibilities as the face of The Chase and the reboot of Gladiators may complicate his potential move to Strictly Come Dancing.
Filming for The Chase has reportedly been halted for at least a year, and Walsh has been named as one of the producers’ favorites for the Strictly gig. However, if he accepts the role, he may have to step away from Gladiators, a show that has helped launch his son Barney’s career.
With so much at stake, the BBC faces a challenging task in finding the right hosts to lead the next chapter of Strictly Come Dancing.
