A monumental summer of music is set to electrify Lisbon, with the final headliner for the highly anticipated Rock in Rio festival officially announced. This iconic festival, which first debuted in Rio de Janeiro back in 1985, has since grown into one of the world’s largest musical gatherings, drawing an astounding 1.38 million attendees to its inaugural event.
Rock in Rio expanded its global footprint by gracing the Portuguese capital with its presence in 2004, and it has since become a staple in Lisbon, hosting a total of nine editions. The festival’s reach has also extended to other international locales, including Madrid and Las Vegas.
This June marks the return of Rock in Rio to Lisbon after a four-year hiatus. Two colossal weekends of performances are scheduled to take place at the sprawling Parque Tejo, promising an unforgettable experience for music lovers.
A Stellar Line-Up Revealed
Previously, the festival had unveiled a trio of powerhouse headliners: the legendary British crooner Rod Stewart, American pop sensation Katy Perry, and the influential rock band Linkin Park. These announcements alone had already generated significant buzz, setting the stage for what was anticipated to be a spectacular event.

21 Savage Joins the Ranks
Now, the final piece of the headliner puzzle has been revealed: British rapper 21 Savage will make his much-anticipated debut in Portugal at Rock in Rio Lisbon. Currently based in Atlanta, Georgia, the Grammy Award-winning artist embarked on his music career in 2013 and has since released four acclaimed albums. His impressive discography includes collaborations with global superstars such as Drake, Offset, and Post Malone. He has garnered eight Grammy nominations, clinching the award for Best Rap Song in 2020 for his hit single “A Lot.”
Hailed as “one of the defining voices in modern hip hop,” 21 Savage is expected to bring a formidable arsenal of global hits and chart-topping projects to the Rock in Rio stage. His performance will likely feature tracks from his recent album “American Dream,” alongside monumental collaborations like “Savage Mode II” with Metro Boomin and “Her Loss” with Drake.
More Hip-Hop Heavyweights and Global Stars
The festival’s commitment to showcasing contemporary urban music extends to other significant additions to the lineup. Fellow rapper Central Cee, who burst onto the mainstream scene with tracks like “Day in the Life” and “Loading” before releasing the chart-topping mixtape “23,” is also set to perform. His collaboration with Dave, “Sprinter,” achieved a historic milestone, becoming the longest-running number-one rap song in UK chart history. Furthermore, his debut album “Can’t Rush Greatness” broke new ground as the first UK rap record to crack the Top 10 of the Billboard 200.

Adding to the global flavour, Afrobeats artist Rema is confirmed to take the stage. The Nigerian star has already demonstrated his widespread appeal by selling out iconic venues such as Madison Square Garden and the O2 Arena. His global breakthrough came with the infectious hit “Calm Down,” and its remix featuring Selena Gomez became the highest-charting track ever by an African artist on the Billboard Hot 100.

The festival’s dedication to celebrating the “biggest rap-focused day in the history of the Lisbon edition” is further reinforced by the inclusion of Brazilian trap sensation Matuê, Brazilian rapper Filipe Ret, influential funk producer DENNIS, Afropop rising star Irina Barros, Portuguese hip-hop artist Carlão, and Spanish pop crossover artist Lola Índigo.
A Diverse and Youth-Centric Vision
Roberta Medina, executive vice president of Rock in Rio Lisbon, highlighted the line-up’s significance, stating that it “represents the dominant musical language among younger generations around the world.” She elaborated, “From hip hop to trap and Afrobeats, these sounds shape global youth culture. Bringing together artists such as 21 Savage, Central Cee and Rema alongside leading voices from Brazil, Spain and Portugal reflects the strength and diversity of this movement.”
Each day of the festival will be curated with specific themes and target audiences in mind. Beyond the recently announced acts, the already confirmed roster for the two festival weekends includes popular artists such as Charlie Puth, Shaggy, and Joss Stone, promising a rich and varied musical tapestry.
Rock in Rio Lisbon is scheduled to take place across two weekends: June 20-21 and June 27-28, at Parque Tejo in Lisbon, Portugal.
