Pop superstar Taylor Swift and her infamous ex-flame John Mayer were both in attendance at a Paul McCartney concert in Los Angeles over the weekend. The Grammy-winning artist, who recently made a public appearance with her fiancé Travis Kelce at the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards, was seen mingling with other notable figures at the event. The history between Swift and Mayer dates back to 2009 when the pair were reportedly romantically linked. At the time, Mayer was 32, while Swift was just 19.

Photographs circulating showed Swift leaving the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, engaged in conversation with fellow musician Olivia Rodrigo and other friends. The connection between Swift and Mayer isn’t solely rooted in their past romantic involvement. They previously collaborated on the 2009 track “Half Of My Heart.” Their reported romance that same year, with Mayer being 13 years Swift’s senior, was a brief affair, concluding in February 2010.
This split later fuelled considerable fan speculation surrounding Swift’s 2010 album, Speak Now. The track “Dear John” from the album, released in October of that year, has long been theorised by fans to be about her relationship with Mayer. Lyrics such as, “Don’t you think nineteen’s too young / To be played by your dark, twisted games when I loved you so? / I should’ve known,” are often cited as evidence.
The musical back-and-forth appeared to continue in 2013 when Mayer released his single “Paper Doll.” This song has also been the subject of much discussion, with many believing it to be a response to Swift’s “Dear John.” Mayer’s lyrics, including “You’re like twenty-two girls in one / And none of them know what they’re runnin’ from,” were interpreted by some as a nod to Swift’s 2012 hit “22” from her album Red.

“Because I didn’t deserve it,” Mayer stated at the time. “I’m pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. While Swift and Mayer successfully avoided an awkward encounter at the McCartney concert, her fiancé Travis Kelce was not present. This comes just days after the couple made their red carpet debut as a pair at the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards in Los Angeles.
Swift had a highly successful night at the awards, securing seven accolades. Among her wins was Pop Album of the Year for her 2025 album, The Life of a Showgirl. During her acceptance speech, she spoke about the album’s themes of happiness, strength, confidence, and freedom, attributing these feelings in part to her fiancé. “Because of my fiancé, who’s here tonight,” she shared with the cheering crowd, a sentiment met with a proud smile from Kelce, who was seen applauding from his seat.
Swift’s impressive haul of awards also included Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Pop Song of the Year, Favorite Tour Style (Eras Tour), Best Lyrics, and Best Music Video for “The Fate Of Ophelia.”
Although Swift walked the red carpet solo earlier in the evening, she later reunited with Kelce inside the Dolby Theatre. The couple were observed sharing a kiss before Swift took to the stage to deliver her acceptance speeches.

The public appearances come amidst growing speculation about Swift and Kelce’s impending nuptials. Reports suggest the couple are planning to tie the knot in June. Kelce proposed to Swift last August, with the singer sharing the news on Instagram, playfully captioning the announcement with, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
Sources close to the couple have indicated that both families are thrilled about the engagement, with intimate celebrations and gifts being exchanged. The wedding venue is rumoured to be Swift’s expansive $28 million Rhode Island mansion, with a potential date of June 13th, a date significant to Swift due to her lucky number, 13.
