Theo James, the acclaimed actor known for his roles in the Divergent series and The Gentlemen, recently made a rare public appearance with his wife, Ruth Kearney, at the London premiere of his latest film, Fuze. The couple, who are parents to two young children, stepped out for the Thursday evening event held at London’s Odeon West End, taking a moment away from their parental duties to celebrate James’s new cinematic venture.

The official synopsis for Fuze paints a thrilling picture: ‘After an undetonated bomb from World War II is uncovered at a London construction site, the chaos of the subsequent evacuation and bomb disarming provides excellent cover to conduct a nearby bank heist’. This premise, filled with action and espionage undertones, naturally draws parallels to the world of James Bond.
Despite the persistent rumours surrounding Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s potential casting as the new Bond, insider reports have recently denied these claims, leaving the field open and speculation running rife. Last year, when questioned about the possibility of stepping into Bond’s shoes, Taylor-Johnson offered a measured response to Numero magazine, stating, “I find it charming and wonderful that people see me in that role. I take it as a great compliment.”
Theo James, who has Greek heritage, is also among the more than twenty established names that have been linked to the coveted role of the British secret agent. Addressing the rumours in an interview with The Guardian, James expressed his perspective: “Everyone’s interested in [Bond] because it’s a big part of British cultural identity, but that probably wouldn’t be me. I do think there are better people for that job. And, honestly, it would be terrifying: if you do that, there’s no going back. You’re opening Pandora’s box there.”
He further elaborated on the significant life changes such a role would entail: “‘You’ve got to be willing to live a very different life and have a different life for your family. And that would be pretty tricky. Plus, my mates would take the p*ss out of me. Because they always say, ‘Bondopoulos – the Greek Bond.'”

When asked about the Bond rumours at the World Government Summit in Dubai, Elba stated, “A lot of people talk about another character that begins with J and ends with B, but I’m not going to be that guy. I’m going to be John Luther. That’s who I am.” This decision came after reports in August 2022 suggested Elba had withdrawn from “years of talks” with producers, preferring to explore other opportunities. He had even reportedly provided a list of suggested actors to producer Barbara Broccoli, hinting at his continued interest in the franchise’s future, albeit not as its titular star.
