Titans star loses it as Eels fans chant him off field

Keano Kini Shines in Titans’ Dominant Win

It’s hard to believe there was ever a debate about who should be the Titans’ fullback, given Keano Kini’s outstanding performance in the NRL. Kini delivered what many consider his best 80 minutes of the season, playing a crucial role in Gold Coast’s 52-10 victory over the Eels at CommBank Stadium. This win marked a rare triumph for the Titans in Sydney and was their second-highest score in the competition this season.

From the moment Josh Hannay took charge as coach, he made it clear that Kini would be his first-choice fullback. The small but speedy player proved him right with a performance that could be described as “video game numbers.”

Kini was instrumental in setting up the Titans’ first four tries. His standout moment came with a breathtaking spin move that allowed AJ Brimson to score. Additionally, Kini’s long-range break after a kick led to Sialetili Faeamani scoring a try just 15 minutes into the match, making it 18-0.

In the second half, Kini burst through the middle to set up Jayden Campbell, finishing the game with impressive stats: 226 metres, four assists, three line-breaks, and nine tackle busts.

Kini wasn’t the only one who contributed to the team’s success. Jojo Fifita scooped up a loose ball and linked up with Phil Sami, who scored a stunning 85-metre try. Campbell also intercepted a pass, adding to the Titans’ dominance.

Defensive Struggles

The Eels’ defensive issues were glaring in this match. After six rounds, they have slipped to the bottom of the table and are currently the worst defensively in the NRL. They conceded nine tries and missed 43 tackles against a Gold Coast side that hasn’t been at its best offensively.

The Eels have already let in 226 points this season, with both their edges and middle exposed by the Titans. Coach Jason Ryles must be frustrated by how easily Cooper Bai managed to score from close range in the second half.

Their attacking efforts weren’t much better either. Their first try came off what appeared to be a forward pass, and the crowd’s boos echoed as the visitors reached 50 points.

Injury Crisis

Parramatta is facing an increasing injury crisis. Powerhouse forwards Sam Tuivaiti and Kelma Tuilagi are set to miss their next game after sustaining head knocks during Sunday’s match.

The Eels are already without J’maine Hopgood, Matt Doorey, and Bailey Simonsson for the rest of the season. Isaiah Iongi and Jonah Pezet are among other key players currently sidelined.

Tuivaiti was on the field for only about 10 minutes when his head collided with Arama Hau’s hip while attempting a tackle. He was immediately ruled out of the game.
