Hollywood Royalty Hits North Sydney Cricket Store
It’s not every day you get a visit from a bona fide Hollywood A-lister, but that’s precisely what happened at the Greg Chappell Cricket Centre in North Sydney this week. None other than the legendary Tom Hanks, accompanied by his son Truman, popped into the store to pick up some sporting essentials.
The Oscar-winning actor, 69, was in high spirits, happily posing for a photo with the store’s staff, who were understandably thrilled by the unexpected celebrity encounter. In fact, the store owner admitted to not even recognising the star when he first walked through the doors.
The Greg Chappell Cricket Centre later shared their excitement online, posting: “Not your usual walk-in customer… We’re used to serving cricket royalty, but yesterday at GCCC North Sydney, we welcomed Hollywood royalty, with Tom Hanks and his son Truman stopping by the store. From Baggy Greens to big screens, you never know who’ll walk through the doors at GCCC.”
According to reports, the father-and-son duo left the store with a haul of cricket gear, including a beach cricket set, a couple of caps, wicketkeeping gloves, cricket balls, and some shorts. It’s understood their Australian adventure is set to continue with a visit to Perth to see some friends.
This isn’t the first time Hanks has been spotted in Sydney recently. Just two weeks prior, he was seen on a bustling movie set. He also took the time to greet some fans, with one local business, Site Bar Pizza in Little Bay, sharing on Facebook: “Great to see Tom Hanks saying hello to the locals and having a little chat, very cool.”
Hanks is currently in Australia to film the sequel to his 2020 World War II drama, Greyhound, for Apple TV. This marks his second visit to the country in recent years; he was previously here in 2020 to portray Colonel Tom Parker in Baz Luhrmann’s critically acclaimed film Elvis.
A Glimpse into Tom Hanks’ Family Life
Tom Hanks is a devoted family man, married to actress Rita Wilson for over three decades. Together, they share their two youngest sons, Truman and Chester ‘Chet’. Hanks also has two older children, Colin and Elizabeth Ann, from his first marriage to the late actress Samantha Lewes. Hanks and Lewes were married for ten years before their divorce in 1987. Tragically, Samantha Lewes passed away in 2002.
