Cause of Death Confirmed for Tommy Lee Jones’ Daughter Victoria Jones
Victoria Jones, the daughter of acclaimed actor Tommy Lee Jones, passed away at the age of 34 on New Year’s Day. Her cause of death has now been officially confirmed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in San Francisco, more than a month after her passing.
According to reports, Victoria Jones died due to the “toxic effects of cocaine,” with the manner of her death being ruled an “accident.” She was found at the Fairmont San Francisco hotel.
At the time of her death, the San Francisco Fire Department confirmed that paramedics responded to the scene. A statement shared indicated that upon arrival, the individual was assessed and subsequently declared deceased. Law enforcement and the medical examiner’s office were then notified and attended the scene, with the area being turned over to the San Francisco Police Department and the Medical Examiner’s office.
Early reports from TMZ indicated that law enforcement officers had been dispatched to the hotel following a “code 3 for the overdose, colour change,” suggesting a critical medical emergency.
Victoria Jones is survived by her father, the 79-year-old Tommy Lee Jones, her mother Kimberlea Cloughley, and her brother Austin Jones. Following her death, her family issued a heartfelt statement expressing their gratitude for the outpouring of support.
“We appreciate all of the kind words, thoughts, and prayers,” the family stated. “Please respect our privacy during this difficult time. Thank you.”
A Glimpse into Victoria Jones’ Acting Career
Victoria Jones also pursued a career in acting, appearing in several productions, including some of her father’s notable works. She had roles in “Men in Black II” and in Tommy Lee Jones’ directorial debut, “The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.”
Interestingly, Tommy Lee Jones once recalled having to dismiss his daughter from the set of “The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada.” He recounted an incident in a 2006 interview where Victoria was required to wake up at 5 am for her role but refused to get out of bed one morning. Jones stated, “She had to get up at 5am for her part. One morning, she wouldn’t get out of bed. I said, ‘Honey, this is work.’ She wouldn’t budge, so I fired her.” He added that the production staff, without his knowledge, intervened and managed to get her to the set just in time.

Beyond her father’s projects, Victoria Jones’ acting credits also include appearances in “Sorry, Haters,” “One Tree Hill,” and “The Homesman.”
Previous Conservatorship Efforts
Reports have emerged that Tommy Lee Jones had previously sought a conservatorship for his daughter approximately two years before her passing. Court documents from Marin County Superior Court, reviewed by various publications, indicated that in August 2023, the Oscar-winning actor filed a petition to establish a temporary conservatorship over Victoria.
This request was reportedly granted by a judge, who appointed a temporary conservator for Victoria when she was 31 years old.
Further details from earlier reports suggested that at the time of the conservatorship filing, Victoria was involuntarily hospitalised for a 14-day period in Greenbrae, California. This action was reportedly taken due to concerns that she posed a danger to herself and others. The reports also indicated that Tommy Lee Jones had requested that his daughter be transferred to a drug rehabilitation facility upon her discharge from the hospital.
Ultimately, a request to terminate the temporary conservatorship was reportedly granted in December 2023, just weeks before her tragic death on New Year’s Day.
