Kieran Trippier to Leave Newcastle at End of Season
Kieran Trippier is set to depart from Newcastle United at the conclusion of his contract this season. The 35-year-old former England international joined the club from Atletico Madrid in January 2022 and quickly became a vital part of the team’s success under manager Eddie Howe.
Over the past four-and-a-half years, Trippier has made over 150 appearances for the Magpies, playing a key role in their progress. His contributions were instrumental in the club’s historic victory in the Carabao Cup last season, where he lifted the trophy alongside captain Bruno Guimaraes. This win marked Newcastle’s first domestic trophy in 70 years, a moment that remains etched in the memories of fans and players alike.
In a heartfelt statement published on Newcastle’s website, Trippier expressed his emotions about leaving the club. “The time has come to leave this amazing club after four-and-a-half years,” he said. “This is where I have felt most at home. It’s emotional, and I’m really going to miss it.”
He continued, “I want to say a massive thank you to the supporters for all the support through the good and the bad times. You’ve always supported me, always stood by me. To my teammates, it’s going to be emotional. It’s been an amazing journey with you guys. I’m going to miss you all, but to win a trophy with you guys was really, really special – the best of my career.”
Trippier also acknowledged the coaching staff and the team behind the scenes, particularly Eddie Howe. “To the manager, Eddie Howe, all the coaching staff and the team behind the scenes, a massive thank you. The gaffer had the trust – twice – to sign me, gave me the opportunity to represent and captain this great club and most importantly, we managed to win a trophy.”

A Key Figure in Newcastle’s Transformation
When Trippier arrived at Newcastle, the club was in a relegation battle. However, his presence helped elevate the team’s performance, leading them to qualify for the Champions League in two of the next three seasons. His efforts were crucial in securing the Carabao Cup victory, where they defeated Liverpool in the 2025 final.
Despite his contributions, Trippier’s opportunities have been limited this season due to injuries and the strong form of Tino Livramento. Nevertheless, his impact on the team has been undeniable.
Eddie Howe praised Trippier’s influence on and off the pitch. “Kieran has been magnificent for us on and off the pitch. From the moment he walked through the door, he has helped to drive standards that have changed the club’s trajectory,” Howe said.
“He has been one of the highest performers on the pitch. While we’ll be saying goodbye to Kieran shortly, we also know we have a lot left to play for this season, and I know a player of Kieran’s character will be giving absolutely everything to end his time here on a high.”
A Legacy of Leadership and Dedication
Trippier’s career with Newcastle has been defined by leadership, dedication, and a deep connection with the club. He announced his retirement from international duty in August 2024 after playing a significant role in several major tournaments.
As he prepares to move on, the football world will remember his contributions to the club’s success and the lasting impact he has had on the team. His journey with Newcastle has been one of triumph, resilience, and unforgettable moments that will continue to inspire fans for years to come.
