Trump Claims Health Check Was ‘Perfect’ as Top Doctor Warns of Dementia Risk

Donald Trump has claimed his physical health is in excellent condition, despite growing concerns from medical professionals about his apparent decline. The former president took to Truth Social on Tuesday, May 26, to announce that he had completed a six-month checkup at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. “Just finished my 6 month physical at Walter Reed Military Medical Center. Everything checked out PERFECTLY,” he wrote. He concluded with a message of gratitude: “Thank you to the great Doctors and Staff! Heading back to the White House. President DJT.”

While the 79-year-old leader was quick to highlight his seemingly good health, concerns about his well-being have reached an all-time high ahead of his upcoming 80th birthday next month. Just hours before his physical, Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a board-certified cardiologist, appeared on CNN’s Tuesday morning broadcast to express his worries about the president’s health following reports of drowsiness during Memorial Day events at Arlington National Cemetery.

“The president has severe daytime somnolence,” Reiner stated. “He falls asleep very often. He’s fallen asleep in the Oval Office on multiple occasions with people talking to him in the cabinet room, and I was concerned yesterday that he might have fallen asleep at Arlington National Cemetery during Memorial Day observances.”

Reiner also warned about the risks associated with chronic insomnia, which he described as a severe illness. “It can result in an increase in risk of dementia, decrease in cognitive effects in older people.”

The doctor’s comments come as he called for a “credible explanation” for Trump’s physical health concerns from the White House after his annual checkup. In addition to cognitive issues, Reiner raised questions about bruising on the president’s hands and “severe swelling in his ankles,” dismissing the White House’s hand-shaking excuse as “not credible.”

Regarding the swelling in Trump’s ankles, Reiner pointed out that his doctor described the condition as “chronic venous insufficiency.” However, he noted that three months ago, a year prior, Trump’s examination showed no signs of edema. “This would make this acute venous insufficiency, which is an entirely different thing,” Reiner said.

Edema, a medical term for swelling caused by excess fluid trapped in the body’s tissues, commonly occurs in the feet, ankles, and legs. The discrepancy in Trump’s medical records has raised further questions about his health status.
