Enzo Fernandez’s Agent Condemns Chelsea’s Two-Match Ban
Enzo Fernandez’s agent has strongly criticized the decision by his club to impose a two-match ban on the midfielder, calling it “completely unfair” and raising concerns about the player’s future at Stamford Bridge. The controversy stems from the midfielder’s comments during the international break, which reportedly suggested an interest in moving to European rivals like Real Madrid.
Liam Rosenior, the manager, stated that “a line was crossed” and that the club took the drastic step of banning their own player for games against Port Vale and Manchester City. This move has sparked significant debate among fans and former players alike.
Fernandez’s agent, Javier Pastore, defended the £107 million midfielder, telling the Athletic: “The punishment is completely unfair — banning the player for two matches, which moreover are also absolutely crucial for Chelsea because qualification for the Champions League is at stake and he is one of the team’s most important players.”
Pastore added that the punishment was too harsh given the current situation and that there was no real justification for the decision. He emphasized that the interview was blown out of proportion and clarified that Fernandez did not mention any club or express a desire to leave Chelsea. Instead, he only referenced Madrid as a city, responding to a question about which European city he would like to live in.

Pastore, who played for PSG and Roma before retiring last year and establishing his agency, went on to suggest that Chelsea might be frustrated by their rejection of contract renewal offers. He accused the club of being “not realistic” about what Fernandez deserves. He also threatened to explore other options if no agreement is reached after the World Cup.
After a defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, Fernandez publicly questioned his future at Stamford Bridge. Later, in a livestream with Argentine channel SpiderCARP, he appeared to issue a challenge to Real Madrid, suggesting he would like to live in Madrid, which he compared to Buenos Aires.

Earlier on Friday, Rosenior addressed the situation, stating: “We spoke with Enzo an hour ago. As a football club, with me as part of that process, we’ve made a decision. He won’t be available for tomorrow’s game (versus Port Vale) and he won’t be available for Manchester City on Sunday. For Enzo, it’s disappointing to speak in that way.”
He continued: “What I will say about Enzo is in terms of him as a character, as a person, I’ve got no bad words to say about him. But I think a line was crossed in terms of our culture and what we want to build. So we had to make a sanction and that was a decision we’ve made.”
Rosenior praised Fernandez’s character and achievements, emphasizing that the decision was a joint effort involving the club’s management and ownership. He also noted that the door is not closed on Fernandez, but the sanction was necessary to protect the club’s culture.
John Obi Mikel, a former Blues star, expressed frustration with Fernandez’s statements, calling them unbecoming of a leader. He argued that leaders should consider the impact of their words on the dressing room and the club’s traditions. Mikel emphasized that no player is bigger than the football club, especially one as significant as Chelsea.
- Mikel praised Fernandez’s progress with the Blues but was clearly upset by the statement.
- He stressed that if Fernandez felt he had had enough, he should have simply left instead of making such remarks.
- The former player highlighted the importance of leadership and respect within the team.
