The Abandoned Mansion: A Mystery Unfolds
A YouTuber known as The Bearded Explorer has captured the attention of millions with a detailed exploration of an £8 million abandoned mansion. This striking property, located in Belbins, Romsey, spans 11 acres and was originally constructed in 2004. However, it was never completed or occupied, leaving behind a mystery that continues to intrigue locals and online audiences alike.
According to the YouTube star, the 12-bedroom mansion was only inhabited briefly when squatters moved in temporarily in 2012. This brief period of occupancy adds to the enigma surrounding the property, which has remained largely untouched for years.
Urban Explorer’s Chilling Discovery
Urban explorer Colin Smith made a chilling discovery while attempting to enter the mansion. He uncovered a secret underground escape tunnel, which he decided to explore in front of his viewers. Using a torch, he illuminated the dark and long metal tunnel, describing it as “mad” and noting how cool it felt inside. He explained, “This is mad. This was the escape tunnel from the main mansion. I’ll tell you what, it’s nice and cool in here, it really is.”
As he ventured deeper into the tunnel, Colin came across what he believed to be an “escape exit” or “ventilation shaft.” However, he quickly encountered a dead end, which appeared to be blocked. He remarked, “It looks like it’s been pushed by something on the other side. It’s a shame we can’t get through. You can almost feel a breeze coming through, actually. God, this is so crazy!”
Inside the Abandoned Mansion
After finding an alternative way into the main house, Colin discovered a space that was far from finished. The mansion included the skeleton of a pool, an underground aquarium, a man-made lake, a cinema, and an underground garage capable of holding 10 cars. During his exploration, he also found designs outlining what the house was meant to look like once completed.
Despite the eerie atmosphere, the visit was not without its challenges. As Colin explored, he was soon interrupted by police officers who arrived to escort him off the property. He informed his viewers, “Unfortunately, the police have turned up and are escorting us off-site. Just a big shout out to anyone else wanting to come here – don’t because the place is wired to the police and they will turn up, so don’t waste your time, it’s not worth it.”

Reactions from Viewers
In the clip, Colin told the officers that he had been in the building for about an hour when the alarms started going off. His followers were quick to comment on the eerie property, with one viewer sharing, “I live just a stone’s throw from this, I pass it every day and always admire the big eagles on the entrance gates! Rumours are correct, Johnny Depp supposedly owned it, and talk of our small town was the underground garage! It’s a shame to see it just left to decay!”
Another viewer commented, “The cops on this video were a class act, and it was nice to see how politely the whole thing was carried out.” A third added, “Such a beautiful house that was never finished. This is so sad.”
