Vonn’s Chic Look After Shocking Comeback Revelation

Lindsey Vonn’s Road to Recovery and Possible Comeback

Lindsey Vonn, the legendary American skier, is considering a potential return to professional skiing despite facing one of the most severe injuries of her career. The 41-year-old athlete has been through a harrowing experience after a catastrophic crash during a downhill event in Milano Cortina, which nearly resulted in a leg amputation.

Since the incident, Vonn has undergone eight surgeries following a complex fracture to the same leg that had previously suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). This injury occurred just two weeks before the Winter Olympic Games and only 13 seconds into her first and only run in the women’s downhill final in February. Many believed this would mark the end of her skiing career, but Vonn remains open to the possibility of returning to the slopes.

Vonn is set to attend the Met Gala on Tuesday (AEST), where she will be seen walking on crutches. This moment is significant for her as she aims to walk without crutches for the first time since the crash. She expressed her emotional state, stating, “I’m still in survival mode.” She also added, “Maybe this is going to be the best thing that’s ever happened to me in my life. Maybe some door will open that would never otherwise be open to me.”

This is not the first time Vonn has considered retirement. She officially stepped away from the sport in 2019 but made a comeback in 2024 with aspirations of competing in the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. Prior to her recent crash, she had not finished lower than fourth in any downhill World Cup event during the 2025/26 season and was leading the world standings for the discipline.

Had she delivered a near career-best performance last season, Vonn believes her decision about her future might have been easier to make. However, the severity of her current injury is unlike anything she has faced before. She acknowledged, “It’s a much different injury in that way, again, like the severity of the injury and understanding that I could have lost my leg and how bad things were.”

The pain associated with this injury is extreme, surpassing anything she has experienced in the past. Vonn noted, “I can deal with a lot of pain, but this was so extreme. It’s not even been in the [same] universe of pain with this injury as what I’ve had before.”

She is aware that her recovery will take time. Vonn mentioned that she still has one more surgery left to remove the metal and replace her ACL. “Once I get my ACL fixed, then that’s another six months, so I have at least a year and a half ahead of me before I could really be back to 100 per cent, even just training in the gym.”

Despite the challenges, Vonn is hopeful for what lies ahead. She recognizes the risks involved in returning to the slopes and is aware that her family does not want her to make a comeback. However, she remains optimistic about her future.

Her journey is a testament to her resilience and determination. As she prepares for the Met Gala, Vonn is focused on taking each step forward, both physically and emotionally. Her story continues to inspire, showing that even in the face of adversity, there is always hope for a new beginning.
