Watch: Sanju Samson Honours Fans After CSK Century

Sanju Samson’s Historic Century for Chennai Super Kings

After days of tremendous trolling, Sanju Samson finally answered all the questions with his bat. His maiden century for the franchise was a statement of intent. After a long stint with the Rajasthan Royals, the Chennai Super Kings acquired him through the trade window in exchange for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. And today, at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, against the Delhi Capitals, an innings of 115 runs off 56 balls pretty much stopped all the trolls.

Notably, Sanju has scored three more centuries in the IPL, one for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and two for Rajasthan Royals. This one for CSK was crucial. He scored a 52-ball century, becoming the first wicketkeeper from CSK to have a century. MS Dhoni, who was their long-standing wicketkeeper for years, had his highest score of 84*.

The Kerala-born keeper’s knock was decorated with 14–15 fours and 3–4 sixes. He even had a 113-run partnership with Ayush Mhatre. However, he retired, letting in Shivam Dube for a late over surge.

After scoring the century, Sanju pulled out his helmet, raised his bat, and even saluted the CSK fans before walking back to his crease.

CSK’s Dominant Performance Against Delhi Capitals

Sanju Samson’s sensational unbeaten 115 off 56 balls powered Chennai Super Kings to a commanding 212/2 in 20 overs against Delhi Capitals at Chepauk. The wicketkeeper-batter struck 15 fours and four sixes at 205.35, bringing up his century in just 52 balls.

After skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad made 15, Samson found strong support from Ayush Mhatre, who smashed 59 off 36 before retiring out in the 18th over. Their 113-run second-wicket stand came in only 68 balls and lifted CSK from 62/1 to 175/2.

Shivam Dube then added a brisk unbeaten 20 off 10 to push the total beyond 200. CSK raced to 61 in the powerplay and added 52 in the last five overs, finishing with a run rate of 10.60.

Axar Patel was DC’s lone wicket-taker with 1/39.
