Boots Pharmacy Launches High Street Weight Loss Jab Service
In a significant move for accessible healthcare, Boots pharmacy has rolled out an in-store service for weight loss injections, allowing Australians to access these treatments directly on the High Street. This new initiative aims to cater to individuals seeking convenient, face-to-face consultations for weight management solutions, even during a brief lunch break.
The pharmacy giant has introduced this service as a trial across a select number of its stores nationwide, marking the first time treatments like Mounjaro and Wegovy will be available over the counter in a traditional retail pharmacy setting. This pilot program is designed to offer a more tangible and personal approach to accessing crucial weight loss medications.
How the In-Store Service Works
For those considering the new service, the process is straightforward. Customers will be offered an in-person consultation with a qualified pharmacist within a private consultation room. During this appointment, the pharmacist will conduct a thorough assessment of the individual’s health status and medical history. This evaluation is crucial to determine eligibility for the prescribed weight loss treatments.
Until now, obtaining weight loss medication has predominantly been through online prescription services. While General Practitioners in some regions may prescribe certain medications like Mounjaro on public health systems, this is often restricted to individuals with severe obesity and a range of co-existing health conditions. The Boots initiative aims to broaden access for a wider demographic.

Expanding Access to Weight Management
Jamie Kerruish, chief healthcare officer at Boots, highlighted the company’s understanding of diverse patient needs. “We know that people have different preferences for how they access healthcare services – some seeking online support and some wanting in person conversations with their local practitioner,” Kerruish stated. “The launch of our in-store weight loss treatment service alongside our digital offer delivered through Boots Online Doctor means we can now deliver convenient care to people both online or in person.”
He further elaborated on the service’s purpose: “Our weight loss treatment services are for anyone whose lives are affected by obesity. For people who are overweight or living with obesity, it can be hard to lose weight through diet and exercise alone. Weight loss treatment combined with 360 support to make lifestyle and behavioural changes, can be a powerful tool in helping people manage their weight and at Boots we are here for every step of our customers’ weight loss journeys.”
Boots has already been offering Mounjaro, manufactured by Eli Lilly, and Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy through its established Boots Online Doctor service. This new in-store option complements the existing digital platform, providing customers with greater flexibility.
Booking Your Appointment
Customers interested in the new weight loss jab service can book an in-store appointment conveniently online or, in participating stores, opt for a walk-in basis. This flexibility ensures that individuals can integrate their healthcare needs with their daily routines.
