West Coast has accepted the one-match ban imposed on midfielder Deven Robertson for his rough conduct charge against Zak Butters.
Robertson will miss the Eagles’ upcoming clash against Sydney on Saturday at Optus Stadium. The 24-year-old was found guilty of a football act in the third quarter of Sunday’s intense match, where he tackled Butters to the ground. The incident was graded as careless conduct, medium impact, and high contact, which led to the one-week suspension.
Since joining West Coast from Brisbane, Robertson has made a strong start to his career with the Eagles. He has played in all three matches so far, averaging 19.7 disposals, 6.3 tackles, and 4.7 clearances. His role has largely been defensive, aimed at supporting key players like Harley Reid and Tim Kelly.
Another player facing potential time on the sidelines is veteran on-baller Elliot Yeo. Yeo suffered a groin injury during the match and did not return after half-time. His absence could be a blow to the team’s midfield depth.
In the win over Port Adelaide, Malakai Champion and Tom Cole were used as emergencies, highlighting the club’s need for additional bodies in the lineup.
Co-captain Liam Baker has also faced disciplinary action. He accepted a $1,000 fine for engaging in a melee/wrestle during the game. This was downgraded from a $1,500 penalty due to his early guilty plea.
The Eagles are now preparing for their next challenge, with several key players either suspended or injured. The team will need to rely on its depth and adaptability to maintain its momentum in the season.
With the upcoming match against Sydney, the focus will be on how the team manages without Robertson and Yeo. The coaching staff will likely look to bring in fresh faces or adjust their strategies to compensate for the missing players.
West Coast’s performance this season has shown promise, but the challenges ahead will test the team’s resilience. The club will need to stay focused and united as they continue their campaign.
Looking forward, the Eagles have a chance to strengthen their position in the league if they can overcome these setbacks. With the right approach and determination, they can turn these obstacles into opportunities for growth and success.
